Alabama Gunman kills 9, shoots self! |
|
What is it about people and using guns to resolve problems? Don't they know that guns never resolve problems?
I was sitting down listening to the news after dinner the other night when I heard this being reported in the news:
A GUNMAN killed at least nine people on Tuesday in a rampage across four locations and three communities in Alabama in the United States. Burning down his mother's home, killing members of his own family on their porch and then shooting strangers as he drove by.
Micheal McLendon finally shot himself dead.
I understand that people are frustrated with life as it is. But why lash your fury at innocent people? I mean, if you want to died, go then! No body is gonna give a hoot! Why take so many along with you? Especially if they are strangers who did nothing to you!
What do you think? Are people getting too violent now a days? Or is the THE only way they could think of to resolve their problems?

3. eeyore39 (3181) | 9 months ago | I'm not really sure what all went on in this case. They said he left a list of people who had wronged him. Well I can't imagine those kids could have done him much harm. There seems to be a different mentality these days about life and death. When I was growing up it seemed life was precious and even when people were doing wrong they did not kill. Nowaday there seems to be no safety for life. They will kill you as soon as look at you. Life does not hold the same precious quality that it did back then. I can not explain it but I think it may have something to do with greed. Most people today seem to be wrapped up in themselves and have no concern for others and what others need, want and feel.

ahgong (3741) | 9 months ago | Exactly! IT is always the me-me-me mentality. I mean, who is not disgrunted with their lot in life? Everyone would be unhappy with something in their life. And they learn to deal with it. Not vent out at the people who may have contributed to their current state of life.
Sheez~~! People now a days have a totally different mindset about how things are done eh?

5. kun2349 (7200) | 9 months ago | The same thing also happened in germany.. I just dun understand why are all these things happening so often nowadays.. School should be a safe place to be in, but yet all the killings are done in those places. It's such too dangerous.. I's hard to imagine what causes them to go berserk, going around to kill everybody??
Luckily such a thing had not happened in singapore yet, but i have read a similiar report today.. Students are bring choppers and knifes to school, to get back at school bullies!!!

kun2349 (7200) | 9 months ago | Well, everybody makes mistakes.. Even the case of a boy being abused in dunno which country, and he died in the end, even many social workers also din managed to see anything wrong when the hints and bruises are so obvious..
I guess that guy is good at pretending so that his counsellor will let his guard down off him..

7. JenInTN (3453) | 9 months ago | It's scary my friend. It could be any of us at anytime, a victem. More and more people resort to violence as a means to express anger and it is the innocent that suffer.I think there are desperate people in desperate times and things are so different than they used to be. What next, right? I sometimes fear to send my chidren to school.

ahgong (3741) | 9 months ago | Yeah, it is scary. And with the gun culture in many parts of the states, it is even scarier. And violence begets violence. People who are frustrated see this and thinks, "hey, he could do it, why not me? I will inflict pain upon others as other have inflicted on me!".
I sure hope that something would be done to prevent people like them from getting their hands on guns. Or any weapons for that matter!

8. Savvynlady (2964) | 9 months ago | Yes, I believe we are. I believe we are turning to violence which to me doesn't solve anything but make widows and orphans out of people. I don't see how that will do anything. Down here in Alabama where I live about three or four hours from where this past shooting taken place, it's not unusual to see folks carrying arms, that is the norm here. It is very unlikely when you don't. But I also feel it's all about using it responsibly. Personally, I am tired of folks resorting to guns because they failed in other aspects of their lives and now this is the only way. No it isn't. Last Saturday was the first day they started having funerals for the victims and I just feel bad.

9. arkaf61 (5729) | 9 months ago | I think that people were always too violent. Or rather that there were always people that were too violent in all centuries. Now there is more exposure, more and easier access to weapons and more people. Do the math . Sad but true. It's one of those things that I have trouble understanding but see happening time after time and can't even offer a suggestion for a way to stop it, because I have no idea of what would be able to stop this. Sad, so sad.

10. xfahctor (5105) | 9 months ago | It was indeed a horrific tradgedy and that is the focal and main point of everything. However, there are two other things about this that concern me. Firat, I already saw it in here, people and their pavlovian response of "gun control blah blah". Please don'e let this be used as another excuse for more gun control, we don't scream for banning cars every time there is an accident do we? My second concern, was that Somoen called in to the army for assistence. HIGHLY ILLEGAL. Not only illegal but pretty damn Orwellian.

xfahctor (5105) | 9 months ago | "You don't see people driving and ramming everyone down in rage being reported on the news ALL the time. But with guns, weapons, everytime you see a report in the news, it is always used to harm people, innocent or not." no, we don't see it in the news as much, because it isn't as sensationalist as guns are, guns sell more news, but it happens none the less, dui crashes, road rage, people evading police in a chase, intentional rammings, it all happens. People die far more as a result of vefical misuse and negligence. guns are a tool when used propperly, just like a car is. If we begin banning guns, it only makes it harder for honest decent people to own them, criminals will still have no trouble getting them because they don't obey the law in the first place. Look at germany, the school shooting that just took place. Germany has some vert strict gun control, yet things like this happen there anyway.
"Asking to regulate the use of guns is not wrong then. No? " In this country, yes it is VERY wrong. there is no constitutional authority for them to do so, it would be Ilegal and litteraly a crime of treason.
