Have you been on a beach but not gone in the sea?

I went to Hawaii year ago and the waves were so high that people were surfing. If I had tried paddling the waves probably would have knocked me over. Swimming certainly wasn't possible. Have you ever been on a beach but not gone on the sea. If so why?

Actually no...I have been to the beaches in Hawaii, Bahamas, and in the gulf of Mexico...had to go in.....but we didn't have the high waves only at Sandy Beach in Hawaii....we still went in but got knocked over and our suits were full of sand!

Yes I have, Last year I was on a beach on the Atlantic Ocean, I stuck my feet and lower legs in. I didn't get all the way in, it was much too cold. The year before I was on a beach on the Pacific Ocean, again I just stuck my feet in, much too cold.

A few times. If it is not safe to swim then of course there is no point in trying. Sometimes even though it is not safe to swim, it's still ok to stay by the water and even enter , just not to go any further. In those cases it is kind of ok and I usually stay. But if it's to dangerous to even stay by the water - as it happened in certain beaches I went - then I just don't have the patience to stay and I just leave. I like the beach mostly because of the water. Sand and sun are just the place I go to warm up or dry before I go into the water again. So if I can't do it, I get bored really fast :)

beach - beach is very beautiful
Yes, it happened to me. Last time when I went to Hainan Island, I was unable to swim in the sea although it's beautiful there. As I was having my period and this is very bad luck. I wish I could play in the water. I love China

I have only been to the beach off the ocean once and I did go into the wate. NOt very far though as the waves would start getting to big and I was afraid of going under and being carried off. I love the beach though it is a beauftiul place to be.

Last time I went to California which has been like 8 years ago, I didn't go in the water. We just laid on the sand. I took a couple steps into it for a picture but I was afraid to swim because I worried about sharks. Stupid.

yes, i was in a situation just like you. when we went to greece, in some days, it wasn't hot, so the water was a bit chilled. so, i prefered to stay just to have a tan, without swimimg. the waves were cold and high. so, i just satyed on the beach.

lol all the time. the sea is really cold here and if you go to the beach when its windy and cold, you really don't want to strip off and get in. its more of an endurance test than fun. Also i hate swimming in salt water. makes my skin really sore.
