having one language worldwide: will it solve our problems? |
| |
| if we developed a universal language (and i'm not talking about math), or more accurately a "global" language that everyone on earth will understand, do you think it will solve problems? do you think it will mae a difference? prevent misunderstandings and perhaps even wars? will it make people closer? will people relate to each other more if we all understood each other? has anybody even tried to encourage just one language? or will doing so even provoke more conflicts? what say you? ^_^ | | | | | |

| | It absolutely will NOT solve our problems. NO. Our problems are caused by human nature - which is basically NOT good. Our native inclination is to do whatever it takes to get our way. If that means hurting others, stealing, lying, cheating, what have you....so be it. Do you realize that there has never been a period of more than a few years in our world during which time there has been total peace on the planet? There have always been wars - but more so in the last 100 years. Who was it that said... "I know not with what weapons WW3 will be fought, but WW4 will be fought with sticks." Conflict is in our very nature. | | | | | | |

| | hi there! perhaps a language understood by everyone may not solve problems. hehe. ^_^ as to human nature, i guess i'm not in any position to say if it's good or bad... maybe it's safer for me to assume that man's nature is not black and white? hehe ^_^ hm, you know, maybe it won't get rid of all problems, but it can get rid of some small ones... like teachers finding it easier to teach grammar in my country (philippines) if everyone speaks english? hehe ^_^ | | | |

| | I don't think the so-called "global" language will do anything to the world peace. In today's world, if a country is involved into a war, it's not because the country's people can't communicate with the others', but because they want more resources, more markets, and aslo more chances for their country to develop. | | | | | | |

| | maybe it won't help with world peace, that's true. well, maybe it can change a few things, like how people in my country tend to look up to foreigners simply because they speak english well (colonial mentality). stuff like that may change, perhaps... the "global" language might not stop any wars though, lol ^_^ | | | |

| | Well, maybe you're right. No matter how it goes, the worldwide peace needs all the people to make efforts. | | | |

| | i think they already tried this or is still trying to make english the global language and i don't think it changes a lot. there can be different languages but people will always find a way to communicate with each other no matter what. so i guess it can help but not in the biggest scale. | | | | | | |

| | Who would be willing to learn this language? It would still cause problems because no one ever agrees on everything. | | | | | | |

| | It must acknowledge that we have differen belief in our heart, which guide us to live in different ways, and the ways are distinct so clear that would not be solved by a global language. “seeking common ground while reserving”,i believe we can get the harmony. peace on.... | | | | | | |

| | I son't think the wars were caused due to difference in lanuage. I think each language has its own beauty. Difference in language also helps in creativity. I speak three languages and I like all three. Since every person likes his own mother tongue, they would be reluctant to accept another language as a global language. | | | | | | |

| | At one time when I was much younger some of my friends and I were interested in learning a language named Esperanto. This was to be a global language and is still in use today http://esperanto-usa.org/en/node/3 However God does not seem to approve of a global language that is why we have the Bible story about the Tower of Babel and IMO if God does not think a global language works why should mankind think it will? So NO I do not think it would solve any problems. The Tower of Babel - Story Summary: Up until this point in the Bible, the whole world had one language - one common speech for all people. | | Definitely not. Perhaps it might help solve some misunderstandings. But the next big question would be, "what global language is accepted by all?". Quite impossible. | | | | | | |

| | It might lead to better understanding in some situations like when people are traveling to foreign countries and language is a serous barrier but otherwise NO, it would not solve any other problems like war or religious disputes or illegal invasion and such. | | | | | | |
