Update on the skunk...it's worse than I originally thought

We went to bed last night shortly after I posted my skunk discussion because our bedroom didn't smell. At least not until today. This morning it did, so did my closet. The livingroom, diningroom and kitchen also had that same awful stink that smells sort of like your electrical system burning. As I was checking the rest of the house I opened the door to the spare bedroom at the other end of the house and.....TOTAL SKUNK STINK! It was so bad that my husband swore the skunk was in the house but my daughter's former bedroom smelled just as bad. So did the closets. I think the little SOB was in the crawl space under that side of the house when he went off and I'M not crawling under there. I did do some sniffing around outside...to the delight of some of my neighbors who passed by ("What the heck did she lose now?") and I can't find the source. I opened every window in the house and kicked on the A/C...bad idea, it got worse so off went the A/C. I had to babysit two of my grandkids so I couldn't go in search of anti-skunk stink stuff until this afternoon but I have some now...not that it'll do much good until my husband can crawl under the house and locate where it sprayed which he promised to do first thing in the morning. Meanwhile, my furniture smells...my drapes smell...my carpeting smells, the clothes I had left in the dryer smell *AND* my freezer smells! I'm hiding out at the shop right now while he works on his bike and picking up fast food for dinner because, as far as I'm concerned, everything in my house is skunked. This stuff I bought is supposed to take the stink out of everything, including the mean cat...who is still banned from the house...so, hopefully, I'll be able to give it a try either later on tonight or tomorrow. I know they sell skunk repellent somewhere so that will be my next mission...if I ever get this situation back under control. Grrrrrr.....

I'm sorry it got worse. You could always call the exterminators ya know the ones on discovery channel Maybe the skunk went under there to die? I hope it gets better and your house smells better soon.

Ok, we got tired enough and brave enough to come home...and it's not so bad right now. Of course, it's a breezy, cool evening and the windows are open in most of the house. Hubby closed the windows in the spare bedroom since that was the worst one so he wants to see how it is in the morning. I tried some of that spray on one end of the couch...but not much...a test spot. It seemed to do well at first but, as soon as it dried, the smell returned. Tomorrow I'll really soak it like the directions said and then we'll see whether I set the couch on fire or not!

Well get the Febreeze that's for like industrial smells, I can't think of the name of it but I've used it for some really bad smells and it worked. I can also ask my mom, she owns a cleaning business and she might know of something that would help.

I'll put my Saturday morning update up here so everyone can see. The majority of the smell is gone. YEA!!! Hubby crawled under the house and couldn't find anything so it must have sprayed near the house somewhere. I haven't turned the A/C on yet but, judging by where the strongest odor was yesterday, I don't think the unit itself was sprayed since that's located at the opposite end. My livingroom furniture still has a smell so I'll soak it with that stuff since it didn't fade the spot I tested last night. I'll also do the carpeting before I leave the house today. I bought a bottle of Febreze pet odor eliminator to follow up with if I need to but, yes, ask your mom is there's anything stronger...just in case.

Wow! OMG! And I thought we had it bad. Our dog chased one long time ago. It sprayed him and then, because we didn't know any better, we let him back in. And same type of thing. my bedroom was down in the basement. He never went in my room but all my clothes smelled, The next few days the house smelled. But you know what? A WEEK later, I could still smell it in my closet on my clothes. My brother washed the dog with soap, but no help. We took her to our vet, they had to cut all his fur off. What an experience.

That's the way it was with me, too. When I responded I said a week, but ut seemed like weeks later, I could smell it. Of course itr wasn't as bad and I don't know now how long it took to completly disappear but I'll bet some of those clothes that I never wore that I didn't bother cleaning might have been it. Until reading your post, I didn't know they mde any kind of spray that get's rid of that - or at least is supposed to get rid of it.

No way I'm trying to shave that mean cat! I did manage to spray some of the stuff I bought on her...now she's *really* mad! I kept asking people today if I smelled...my daughter...my husband's friend who was at our shop...my niece. They all said no but I swear I was still smelling it while I was out of the house.

You can use baking soda, that takes away every smell! Sprinkle it over your carpets, let it sit awhile then vacuum it up. Same with everything else. You can take the drapes down and use the soda on them, let them sit awhile then shake it out. You definitely need the skunk repellent. Is there garbage in your can outside or something that might be attracting it?

Yes, this definitely is a pain to deal with. My husband's daughter and her family are coming down either later this month or sometime in April. It's a good thing they're not here now!
