A bill preventing the introduction of foriegn currency |
|
A rare event has occured, a bill has been introduced in congress I can support. A proposed constitutional amendment that would forbid the adoption of foriegn currency to replace the dollar in the united states. A mere day after both Berneke and had Geitner stated they would not consider such a substitution, Geitner, in a speech he gave to the councel for foriegn releations, did a near 180 and left the door open for just such a thing, "We’re actually quite open to that suggestion – you should see it as rather evolutionary rather building on the current architecture rather than moving us to global monetary union," As a response, Rep. Michele Bachmann said, "Yesterday, during a Financial Services Committee hearing, I asked Secretary Geithner if he would denounce efforts to move towards a global currency and he answered unequivocally that he would," said Bachmann. "And President Obama gave the nation the same assurances. But just a day later, Secretary Geithner has left the option on the table. I want to know which it is. The American people deserve to know." As a result, she introduced the following proposed amendment.
HJ 41 IH
111th CONGRESS
1st Session

RES. 41 Proposing an amendment to the Constitution of the United States to prohibit the President from entering into a treaty or other international agreement that would provide for the United States to adopt as legal tender in the United States a currency issued by an entity other than the United States.

1. Rollo1 (1613) | 9 months ago | Brava, Michele! This is the sort of representative the people need in Washington, the kind that can see beyond their noses and the next election and do something that is important.
The US is moving closer and closer to socialism while Obama considers embracing a global currency. I saw a debate the other day, the question was "Will America exist as a country in 100 years?". I fear that the answer to that question is "no". I fear that the answer may be that America as we have known it may never exist again, in as little as 4 years, much of our cherished ideals and liberty will have been eradicated.

Once you have a global monetary unit, the next step is to eventually have it to be the only monetary unit. Happened to the EU. Yes, it makes things easier, but you also use part of your national identity. It also makes you more dependent on the economic stability of other countries.
But really the wording of this bill does not really stop the President from signing a treaty that would force the US to peg the dollar to a global monetary unit in international trade relations. In fact, we could eventually still get such a global monetary unit as only legal tender as long as the US does the issuing of said legal tender, too. The wording is too broad.

Hallelujah and amen!!! Finally, someone with a little sense! I wonder if the administration will take this as a personal afront?

xfahctor (5483) | 9 months ago | every so often, a tiny bit of common sense manages to slip through the fence and make it's way in to the head of a congress person. But, I am going to assume this is one of those things we will never hear a word mentioned of.

Should I call my senators (I'm in NY so I am stuck with Chucky Schumer, koolaid drinker extraordinaire who was once quoted publicly advocating the assassination of GWB while he was still in office!), my congressperson, or both?

xfahctor (5483) | 9 months ago | this is a global campaign. I don't totaly understand your political system, can an mp introduce legislation such as this in parliment? And if so, what power does Brown have to kill it?
| |
|
|
Eskimo (1725) | 9 months ago | Actually Brown is one of the ones who is probably in favour of it. You only have to see his recent actions on tv, not only in europe, but also in North & South America.
He is under the delusion that only Brown can save the world.

|
|
xfahctor (5483) | 9 months ago | ah, I see, you guys got one of those too eh. I was aware Brown was part of the gang suggesting things like this, which was why I asked how much he could do to kill a parlimentary action that would prevent the introduction of a foriegn or global currency? I saw a sensable fellow in your parliment barbqing him pretty hardcore the other day, so I know at least some of them wouldn't go for anuy kind of funny financial changes, I was just wondering if brown had the power to do so himself if he chose?
| |
|
|
Eskimo (1725) | 9 months ago | Government over here works a bit funny sometimes, but basicly if ght government( ie Brown) decides to introduce new legislation then usually all other members of his party are expected to vote for it; as he has a large majority then there is a good chance of any bill introduced becoming law. (However sometimes some of his party will rebel and either abstain or vote against it).

6. jjstream (185) | 9 months ago | The US dollar for the most part is the unofficial global currency. Virtually every nation, with the exception of some South East Asia nations, holds billions of US dollars in cash reserves at their central banks. In my view this is not going to change. The Chinese tried to make a play for their own currency to become the world's monetary unit, but it lacks the stability of the dollar. Besides, the Chinese have a habit of manipulating their currency, which the World Trade Organization, finds already unacceptable.

7. jjstream (185) | 9 months ago | I think the President and Mr. Geithner have said that they're open to the suggestion, but I don't think they really mean it. If we weren't in the middle of a global financial crisis, they would've never mentioned it. I think they're just trying to throw a bone to the Europeans, the Chinese, and the Japanese who are struggling with their own financial problems, as a way to get them to think we might consider it as a possible option. The reality is it wouldn't be a viable option for us, even under the best of circumstances.

xfahctor (5483) | 9 months ago | Oh, no doubt, it would be a disaster. What worries me is that we already handed the treasury department a huge unprecidented and uncinstitutional amount of power withlimited checks with T.A.R.P. and they are there now asking for even more. The federal reserve already oporates autonomously. the more safe guards we have in place, the better.

8. Adoniah (2675) | 9 months ago | I do hope that this makes it out of committee and actually is ratified as an Ammendment to the Constitution. This along with an Ammendment making English the official language of the United States would be wonderful. I should live so long.

9. anniepa (9253) | 9 months ago | Is she going to concentrate on passing this waste of time before or after she tries to start a rerun of the McCarthy Hearings? I really hope there aren't many people who take anything Michelle Bachmann says or does too seriously! Look out, Al Franken, Minnesota already has a comedian in Congress. She be da woman...lol! Annie

xfahctor (5483) | 9 months ago | What do you mean by starting McCarthy hearings? lol Why is this a waste of time? How much more a waste of time is it than the bill introduced recognizing Cinco De Mayo? I personaly want to see a lot more things like this introduced. I don't trust Geithner any more than I trusted his bastardd predicessor, Paulson. That treasury department has gotten dangerously out of control in the past 2 administrations.
