I am currently taking some classes in college and I am having trouble seeming from the back of the room. Our teacher has assigned seats and has assigned me to sit in the back. When I asked if I could move up she said no because there are also lots of people that are having trouble seeing. I do not have insurance to pay for another contact lens fitting for another 5 months, I cannot quit the class and I really do not want to argue with the teacher. What do I do? Could I buy a pair of reading glasses or something in a very small degree like -.15 or something around that?

i had this same problem in high school-i sat up front so i could see the board, and the teacher moved me (they always moved the kids around,so people wouldn't sit together on purpose).she asked me why i didn't take notes. i said "because i can't see the board now!" i would go to the dean if she isn't being accomidating, and explain your problem. you're paying to be there after all,you should be able to move your seat.

At our school you can only complain about seating if you are truly disabled. But most teachers were nice and let me sit up front even before I had a label. I usually took notes on my laptop so that I could type as quickly as the professor spoke. But if the notes were only written on the board, I was in trouble.

Maybe a pair of glasses will help and some are very cheap. Go to an optometrist. I thunk they measure all that free of charge.

Reading glasses won't help for distance. I have no insurance and have to buy my glasses, which are over $500 for a pair. But some people with common prescriptions can go to the 99 cent store and buy distance glasses, try that if you really can't get a job and work some more hours or something.

You have every right to complain because you are paying for your education. If she doesn't budge into looking for a solution for the problem perhaps you could raise it to the dean or the administration. There's a problem with the school if people can't have ample space to be able to see. Do you have a student council of some sort there? address this issue to them so they could help. You should not be afraid to voice out your rights because it's not your fault you can't see very well from afar.
