I am trying to substitute my breakfast with fruits and vegetable juices. I want to lose some weight. I have started with carrot juice and this is my second day. Do you think there will be any side effects? Is it good to take fruit juice instead of regular breakfast?

1. zoey7879 (1252) | 9 months ago | A good breakfast should have a little of both. Your stomach can produce some nasty effects from feeling empty all the time, especially reflux and vomiting. Juices still contain sugars (some natural some added so watch out for that). In trying a similar thing, I came to realize that some juices contain just as many calories per 8 oz serving as does a 12 oz can of Mt Dew! However, the juice offers a variety of nutrients and vitamins. I would suggest maybe eating a fruit, or eating 1-2 slices of toast along with drinking some juice.

2. iamsolucky (1179) | 9 months ago | Fruit and vegetable juices is good every morning, but after 15 to 20 minutes, you have to eat heavy meals, with carbohydrates and protein to boost your metabolism for the day. After breakfast you can slow down with you food in lunch and dinner. I dont think a heavy breakfast will make you gain more because it will be your fuel or energy for the whole day. Thats what i do everyday, i enjoy breakfast and i will just eat small portion of foods in my plate in the afternoon, i also eat varities of fruits for my dinner. I was overweight 2006 and 2007 but i am back in shape now:). you also help your dieting with physical activity. it will prevent having sag skin because it tones the body, you can build muscles but not like a body builder of course. Aerobic is one perfect way for a healthy body Happy mylotting and smile always

I think when you want to loose weight you are telling yourself you have to do without something. When you substitute a liquid in place of something you chew, then you at depriving yourself and can lead to eating more throughout the day.
My mother tried this and she said it was a lot like when she quit smoking. You feel you're taking something away.
She has found a successful diet and is lossing about 2 pounds a day. She bought a diabetic cookbook where there are all these flavor rich recipes, but 1/2 the sugar in what we normally eat. I looked at it and it really isn't that off from what you'd normally use - just a different mixture of WHAT you use.
I think this would be more effective because you're not depriving your body of chewing. It might sound a bit strange, but when you're already telling yourself you need to loose weight you already know there are certain things you can't have.
A glass of veg juice isn't a bad thing - probably better for you than grape or apple juice, but you still need to watch how many calories are in them. I think you'd be surprised how much you can eat that would equal a tall glass of juice in the morning.

And you need sustenance to boost your metabolism (aka make you lose weight) and keep awake throughout the morning hours. You need a breakfast with protein and fiber. Juice usually has nothing but sugar and very few vitamins. It won't hold you over - you're going to most likely feel hungry throughout the morning and end up eating anyway. If you're going to cut out ANY meal, you should cut out any light-night snacking or even just cut out dinner in general (or replace it with a shake).
Here's an idea for breakfast: Have an apple (80 calories), 1/2 cup of oatmeal or better yet - rolled oats (120 calories), 1 boiled egg (90 calories), and a glass of juice or skim (fat-free) milk (110). This would make your breakfast a total of 400 calories, which is the perfect size!
You shouldn't try to skimp out on breakfast, as you won't end up losing weight any quicker. You need sustenance, particularly protein, carbs, and fiber to be able to function like usual, especially at the beginning of the day - when you're running on empty to begin with.
Instead, you should start an exercise routine, and cut out about 500 calories per day. Cut yourself down to 1,400-1,600 a day to lose weight the healthy way, and try to get in 3-4 days of cardio workouts per week (cardio workouts: running, cycling, spinning - anything that gets your heart beating!). Eat a healthy cereal or scramble some egg whites and toast for breakfast. If you want to get ahead, try substituting juice for lunch rather than breakfast. Also, if you are making fresh juice with a juicer, try mixing all sorts of veggies and fruits together. You will get better results plus it will tast much better. You can also add things such as wheat grass, etc. to make it even more healthy.The great thing about a juicer is that you know the juice you make is all natural, plus you can put in the whole fruit without skinning it or anything. It is so easy and healthy! If you o not go home for lunch, you can always take your juice in a thermos! Good luck on losing weight!
