Tips and advice for a beginner  | |  I'm really interested in picking up quilting. While I have an old Elna sewing machine from my hubby's grandma (it's from the 1970s, I think), I have absolutely no idea how to go about starting.
I did buy some precut squares (I'm planning on making a simple patchwork blanket for my baby - am current 28th weeks preggers) and am waiting for them to arrive, and ordered some books on basic stuff on quilting but I'm looking for tips, advice or suggestions on where and how I can start.
Any sagely (or even non-sagely) advice to share?

Now that you'll have a little one might I suggest saving squares from favorite outfits and what not as these make great keepsakes later. Also if you check out some antique sites you'll find some great quilts using baby's first dress or christening gown that are just superb.
