I would like to visit Vegas. I hear people say it is a must visit place. I have kids and would like to know if it would be a good vacation for the whole family.

Yes, Las Vegas is a family place. My mother has been taking me and my brother to Vegas since I was 7 years old. If you're bringing children, I would recommend staying at Circus Circus where there are arcades and a mini entertainment center just for kids.
I had a lot of fun in Vegas when I was young.

I could think of a lot of other places I would take my children. Las Vegas is not very friendly to children and with the street walkers I owuld not take my kids until they were at least 25. It is an adult town. I have been there once and that is enough for me unless I had a specific reason - a Convention or something.

Hi ppersaud, I visted Las Vegas about 3 years ago and enjoyed everery minite of it. howerver I would have to say that it is a place better situed for adutls and couples for the most part. I am sure that there is some faimily entertaiment there becase the place offers so much. Each hotel on the strip is like a minit admusment park. Some of hotels like the Stro tower and the Sharra have rides in the hotel. I am single and I have no childern so I fouses the adult activites there. I would say you could take your family there and enjoy some of the place has to offer, I would love to go back myslfe but too expnece right now. but I would also say going to Dinesy Land in Orlando would be better. Now if you want to go there by all means, becase like I said I did some some thing for famies jsut beware of the adult thiems there. I only stayed on the famos Las Vegas strip while I was there and was not able to spend much time ealse where. so I would also say that if you go you should look for things to do with your family that would be outside the city or in the dontown area.

Of course, it depends on how old your kids are. I went to Vegas with my chidren when they were around 10 and 12 (I think). We went then to the Circus Circus casino. There was a floor with those Coney Island type of games and some circus shows. They had fun and we did too. We left them for a while there while we went down to play a bit. There was no problem. We slept there (quite unexpensive for what it was) and we ate out with them at those very low priced buffet type of restaurants they have at many casinos. We all had fun. We even went to peek at some of thosae places where you can get married in a jiffy
.
Maybe if you are going with the family, you should stay at a hotel with a good swimming pool ( you can also have that at a good price).
Have fun!

There was a time when Vegas tried to make it a family vacation spot, when MGM had an amusement park in the back of their hotel, most casino have a early family oriented show. Then they did some research, and it shows that people that goes to Vegas without children or family lose twice if not three time the amount on the gaming table, so out goes the theme park and in comes all the adult oriented entertainment.
Plus it used to be cheap with all the $1.99 and $3.99 buffet, now even the cheap buffet cost $10-12 for breakfast and $20+ for dinner, it will cost a bundle to feed a family of 4.
If you have not been there before, you can probably have a good time there. Even if they aren't top notch hotels, Circle Circle or Excalibur are cheap and have enough activities to keep your underage children occupied. The last time we were at Circus Circus, they offered a special deal of $20 per day buffet plan, that may be a great deal for family, you can eat all day until you are sick of their buffet food.
There are plenty of free stuff to see if you are there for the first time, like the light show at Fremont Street, Atlantis at Caesar Palace, the pirate show outside of TI, the white tigers at the Mirage, the lions at MGM, sometimes you can get free tickets to the antique auto museum at the Imperial. For moderate cost, you can go take a tour of Hoover Dam, do a picnic at Lake Mead, check out the Dolphin habitat at the Mirage or the aquarium at Mandalay Bay. If you can afford to take in a show, Penn and Teller or Lance Burton are suitable for children, and they are moderate in cost, Excalibur's dinner show is good, but better make reservation ahead of time because they do sell out, since it is one of the few family oriented type activities. For more expensive fare, Mystere at TI and "O" at Bellagio are great. That should keep you busy for a few days. Have fun if you go.
