I grew up with my mom mking her list while eating breakfast the morning she did her shopping..I tend to start mine when I run out of something or at the very last, I will make mine the day or night before I do my grocery shopping. When do you start making your shopping list?

LOL! How ironic! I made up my grocery list today. It took so long that I didn't get around to going out to buy the food. So funny!

I make mine as I run out of things, too. I'd never remember what I needed if I sat down and tried to make a list all at the same time. Sometimes I start the same day I get home from the store!

I keep trying to get my husband to be more organized in the list department (he's the cook, and has the kitchen messed up so I can't even get in there), but we always end up making the dang list at the last minute, and forgetting things. Last time we needed to go shopping, about two days in advance I sat down at the computer, and told him to go into the kitchen and tell me everything we needed, then I typed it up. I added what I wanted, and sent it to him to add anything we might have forgotten. we took that with us, and it was much easier having done it in advance. I think I'm going to get a magnetic pad for the fridge, so he can write things down there, instead of us running around like headless chickens at the end of the month.

That sounds like a wise idea...lately I have been that slack that I go shopping with my memory & no list :( I do like to try & write things down as we start running low on things though

You posted a nice discussion Moon...! Our grocery list is prepared on weekly basis. We avoid monthly listing and purchasing only to avoid hoarding as well as wastage and mismanagement of useful items. Also the grocery shops are not far from our residence and mostly shopping is done in the evening hours. Thanks for this nice discussion and have a good day!

Thanks for the discussion compliment..I try to do the same as you & when I can afford a little extra, I try to buy extra canned veges like corn & potatoes because if I have a broke week, I know I don't have to buy too much groceries.

A couple of years ago I painted the pantry door in my kitchen with that chalkboard paint. Whenever I run out of something I just write it on the board with chalk and when shopping day comes I will copy it all to a paper list. That way I don't forget things when putting the list together on paper. Then just erase the board. It works well for leaving notes to husband if I went out before he gets home.

You have just given me a great idea of what to do when I buy my own house - I now want a blackboard pantry door :)

If I notice that I'm running low or am out of something, I'll start my list at that time. Otherwise, I make it not too long before I go to the store. I normally shop once a week and have an idea of what I want to cook so I make my list based on that and on what I already have on hand. I sometimes look at the insert in the paper to see what's on sale but usually I buy what we're in the mood for.

You're 1 step ahead of me, I never know what I'm gonna cook for dinner until sometime the same day.
