'Kid' Driving me crazy... |
| |
| Ok, he's not a kid, just turned 18 last week is now a legal adult but didn't stop him from doing all he can to drive me crazy. What sparked this discussion is discussion I posted last night 'Are you a Competitive Person'... I've never thought I was but oh my youngest son is while commenting on responses it made me think of him - he will turn anything into a compitition. Yesterday I was taking my van to go to the store. Shane had a couple friends over and they were all outside taking turns riding his newly acquired mini-bike. I backed out of the drive-way and pulled up to the stop sign next to our house. Here he comes up next to me "Mom, wanna race? Come on I'll beat you."Now understand this is a mini-bike goes about as fast as a snail on speed and he's 6'4" which looks really really funny on that bike. I yelled out the window no I'm not racing him and reminded him he didn't have his helmet on. Didn't matter I turned to head to the store and here he comes behind me catching me at the next stop sign still challenging me. All I could think was this idiot would run into a parked car or worse tip over and fall under my van tires but at the same time as he proceeded to taunt me at the stop sign I started to laugh - he just looked so funny on that little bitty bike. Do your kids do stupid things that drive you crazy? Do you laugh at them for some other reason? If you don't have kids are you or do you know people who do things like this? Attached photo is Shane winter before last with John Deere Gator stuck in ice he tried driving over. | | Gator through the ice | | | | |

| | Kids will always be kids - for even big boys became kids at time... Yes, i will definitely say yes- they do a lot of stunts that only "people out of their minds" will do. They will even make their own concoction of drinks - mixing all drinkable things you might imagine with some floating thing on it. but i might say, you're also bless because your -so called "big guy" have the guts to be daring - at least it will help him become confident of himself in the long run. just give him a little bit of reining when he tends to step on the line you've drawn. just enjoy it - I'll say, soon enough when he leave the nest - you'll miss him so much and you'll be remembering all his crazy antics - i guess, you'll have such wonderful stories to tell your grandchildren about their dad later on. | | | | | | |

| | Very true - I will have plenty of stories to tell the grandchildren only thing is the stress of worrying about him may be the end of me before we get to that point. Being competative is one thing being daring to the point of constent danger is another - such as going 45 miles an hour on a skate board while holding on to the back of a truck. Ended up at the emergancy room over that one. | | | |

| | My child drives me crazy all the time and she will be 19 in a few months. Now my nephew does crazy things I think it is a boy thing. He called us once cause he couldn't get his friend out of the couch. Yes I said out of not off of. They were taking turns folding each other up in the hideabed sofa!!!!! | | | | | | |
byfaithonly (6284)
|

| | Oh that is just too funny - don't have a hideabed or that would be something Shane would try just to see what it was like or if he could do it, he's on the thin side so might work for him but sure he wouldn't stop at that and would try his best friend who is as tall and 3 times as big around :( | | | |

| | Man, I thought it was supposed to get easier! I have a daughter a year younger than him and she's already torturing me. I need this, I need that, I want a cell phone. (She has to have a job, to have her own cell phone, that is one expense me and my husband will not pay for) LOL. | | | |

| | My eldest son was quite a challenge when he was younger - didn't quite understand where the lines were, or why they were there! Sound familiar? I am now very proud to say that he is a great young man (30 in June) has a wonderful fiancee, and is a fireman, out there helping people and saving lives - hopefully your son will find his feet - sooner rather than later - but it is worth keeping your beliefs in him alive, and letting him know that you love him, even though sometimes you may not like him too much!!! | | | | | | |

| | Oh yes very familure and yes I do letting him know I love him and even yesterday with the 'race' when I started laughing he yelled, "I knew you would like that" and headed back home. How proud you must be of your son doing the challenging job he does. #2 son has been in the USAF for over 10 years now and I'm very proud of him. | | | |

| | That's funny isn't it, legal adult. I was having a chat with Dan about the word "legal" and how out of step with reality it is! lol Must be a boy thing, this competetiveness. I decided to use my son's urge to win to my advantage. (sneaky mom) To make him learn to pay attention, and get better at looking up his scriptures, when he was little, when the speaker mentioned a scripture to look up, I'd nudge him and whisper, "race ya!" In no time, he was paying close attention and he eventually got faster than me! Sometimes. lol Ah, yes, motherly wisdom. Gets 'em every time! | | | | | | |

| | I'll have to go check Dan's discussion pretty sure I know which one it was on. Afraid my son was smarter than me on that one - tried racing him on cleaning each of our own bedrooms, threw his arms in the air and said, "I'll give you that one just because I don't wanna do it, if I did I know I would win." | | | |

| | I'm working hard to get my smilies and here's one of those times I REALLY miss being able to use them. That is SOO funny! Kids are smart, boy! Little monkey! Yes, I doubt the "race ya" would have helped in this instance or any situation where housework is involved. About the only thing I found effective in that quarter was, "well, not done yet? Okay, we'll go to (whatever they were looking forward to) when you're done. I don't mind, I've got plenty of other things to keep ME busy. I won't be bored if we don't go." On the bright side, what a generous kid! Gonna make mommy feel good today! Let her win the race at cleaning my room! lol | | | |

| | I've completely given up trying to get this one to do anything he doesn't want to - the more I try the more he won't. Life is not 'calm' around here these days but I tell myself daily "God has something good in store for me, someday." | | | |

| | If you could see my picture and all the gray hair on my head and in my beard, you'd know the answer to this question. I have a 25 year old son and a 23 year old daughter. My daughter has had a rough five years but has come out of the hole pretty much unscathed and the better for it I think. My son is one of those who makes everything look easy. He's living in Pensacola, Fla. for the year, and just moved there a couple weeks ago. He lives right on the beach so it's a swim every morning and night. Well, he hooked up with a stingray yesterday and while not getting stung, it raked across his shin and left a nasty scrape - took off a good bit of skin (he sent me a photo that said, hey Dad, guess what I did?) BOING! There went another gray hair. My daughter on the other hand, likes to drop these little bomb shells on me in the guise of "Hey Dad, guess who I talked to today?" I'd feel my blood pressure surge and my heart skip a beat - thinking it was her verbally abusive ex-boyfriend, I'd ask, who? She'd say, Josh (not his real name) who is 33, 10 years older than her, a friend of my son and me, who is currently engaged, but wants to take my daughter out for drinks. BOING! Another gray hair, and now I need to have one of those chats with Josh wanting to know what the hell he's doing being engaged and taking my daughter out for drinks - when she was 18 he had a bit of a serious crush on her. So yeah... they drive me nuts. They go a long way in helping me cultivate the Hemingway look. | | | | | | |

| | lol THis is a very funny response, but soooo true! My husband takes the position that he's earned every one of his gray hairs and is proud of every one of them. No one is going to cover them up. He's worked hard on this distinguished look, so leave him alone, thank you. When I told a friend that I was expecting my first child, she said, speaking from her own experience because her son was now grown, "Ah, now you'll never stop worrying a day in your life!" Boing!(lol) Here comes another gray! One of the kids must have just done something dumb. I don't even have to KNOW about it to suffer the consequences! How come it always looks distinguished on men and old on women? | | | |

| | I think it's because God gave y'all nice boobs and cute legs and us guys have beer guts. It's funny, when I was younger I went to have one of those charactiture cartoons done and the guy told me, you have no distinguishing features. I was like...oh. I'm plain. So finally, now that my hair has gone more white than gray, my beard is mostly salt with a dash of pepper around the chin, and I have creases chiseled out of the corners of my eyes, I finally have some distinguishing features and my looks finally have a bit of personality. But now I have this bit of a deflated tire to deal with, though I am losing weight. | | | |

| | Oh yeah... I forgot to add, ... and the prettiest eyes I've ever seen, and a smile that makes me weak in the knees. I guess in exchange for all those we got the distinguished gray hair. | | | |

| | Oh not so fast there I got the gray hair too - just blessed to have 10 shades of color naturally so they don't show quite so much, in the wrong light though - oh no I'm turning into my Mom who is totally gray, she said they all came from us girls :) I have 3 boys and 1 girl and I tell everyone although the boys push me to the limit the 1 girl has been more trouble than the 3 together :( | | | |

| | for a minute there, I thought you were talking to me! I was going to get all blushy and say shucks, but then I saw, oh of course, he's talking to faith. Duh! I know Jacques eyes are adorable but he has a mustache! and I don't even have my smile posted. yes, faith is a pretty lady, and a very sweet person. But I still think its unfair that men get to look distinguished with gray hair. And while we are on the subject, why is it cute to be round and roly poly when you are a baby, but not so much when you grow up? What's wrong with having no teeth and going bald? Babies don't have any teeth at first, and many have no hair. They are stll CUTE! sigh. (just in case you are wondering, I'm not bald and I still have all MY chompers) | | | |

| | LOL - sulynsi I'm sure he was speaking in general, I was thinking to myself "never had my legs referred to as cute", I was blessed/cursed with legs that are a mile long (horrid time gets pants that aren't high waters). | | | |

| | Faith, while you have a nice smile and nice eyes, I was speaking in generalized terms. I probably should have clarified that a little more clearly but hey, it was early and I really hadn't had coffee yet - and honestly I'm trying to cut out caffiene so I have a bit of the withdrawal period anyway where the head doesn't think clearly. | | | |

| | Well, now maybe that's why I chose Jacques as my avatar! A subconscious desire to have cute legs! And lots of 'em! I think he was at his cutest with the green scum all over his face! Makes me think of a little kid with his hand caught in the cookie jar. | | | |

| | At eighteen years old I am sure he still has a kid in him heck I am twenty seven and still do. I mean I guess its all about growing up and when you get older you relize that your not getting any younger and sometime you do things to make you feel young again. We only live once and that once is all we have. So have fun while you still can but of course with some caution. | | | | | | |

| | Oh goodness I feel for your friend but as you said thankfully she has a great sense of humour - sometimes that is the only thing that gets us through it all... Few years ago Shane was at camp for 2 weeks, thought great break for me, I got a call from the camp they were taking him to the hospital. I left work and headed to the hospital - he had already been released - with a broken hand they couldn't cast because of the swelling. He went back to camp where he proceeded to climb a rock wall, with broken hand, I then had to go out a few days later and take him to get a cast on and you got it - he still went back to camp. | | | |
