I have been completely swamped with work this semester in school and working two part time jobs and everything and now that the school year has finally ended I want to READ. And I don't mean those boring books that they force you to read in class. I mean I want to read something for myself, not because I would rather not fail a class that I'm paying thousands of dollars to take.
The only trouble is, I've been so out of touch with the world in the past year or so of school that I have almost no idea what new books are out and what's going on in the world of literature (except for Twilight, which I am intentionally avoiding for lack of interest of sparkly vampires).
So I was hoping that you could list some of your favorite books. Go ahead and list as many as you'd like, I've got the whole summer to catch up on reading (and I do indeed plan on catching up). I like just about all genres except for horror.:)

The Real Vampire books are great. They aren't horror at all. They are a completely different take on vampires and they had me laughing out loud. The first one is Real Vampires have Curves. The author is Gerry Bartlett. You should check it out. Also, The Ha Ha and The Sunday List of Dreams are good as well.

Well, I wouldn't worry about what new books are out, especially if you are talking about philosophical books which are my favourite. Or even novels... I think maybe these are the kind of books you are talking about.

To focus on your question, I don't really have a number one or even a list of books. I have a fair few books at the moment which are unread, so am resisting buying any more at the moment. Quite often I tend to have two or three books on the go at the same time. And if I go away to a new age centre for the weekend, if there is time I will pick up one of their philosophy, relationship or other themed book and just dip into it.

To give you a title, a book that sums up what I like is called "The power of NOW" by Eckhard Tolle. It is tricky to summarise what this book is about in a few words, but basically it is about living in the moment, which is the only moment when we can make change in our life. About being spontaneous, taking a chance.....

And you don't like horror??? Dontcha just love being scared sh*tl*ss on the edge of your seat??? It is a particular passion that most of the human race love to indulge in spine tingling disgust/ excitement/ scariness.....

Another book, which I think is a good read, is 1984 by George Orwell. About the power of propaganda - particularly prevalent in our day and age. Historical fantasy novels can be really enjoyable too, though some of the ones I've read have involved some horror too! ninjaninjaninja Enjoy your reading on myLot!

Oh, I love George Orwell! And I've already read 1984 and adored it as it should be adored...lol.

And no, I like my heart beat remaining at a somewhat average pace and not feeling like it's going to explode from fear. xD Tried it a couple of times and didn't like the feeling, though horror movies are fun to watch on very rare occasions.

I'll definitely check out Tolle, though. I think I've heard him recommended before and it certainly sounds like the type of thing that I would read. Thanks for the recommendation!

Oh dear! Almost forgotten what I was going to write, waiting for so long after I clicked "post comment"! Playing around with my crystals in the meantime!

Yeah, life is to be enjoyed, though it can be good to challenge oneself, now and again. You have (with reading 'horror' books) and have decided you definitely don't like it - fair play. It is good to go for a mixture of reading really. By all means go for some 'pulp fiction' - whatever that exactly means, but it is also good to go for thought provoking literature too --- without necessarily having to be scared witless!!!

Thanks happy
