Do you take your ring off? email this discussion to a friend?

Does your ring come off when you do the dishes? bathe a child? do messy work? get mad at hubby?

Mine normally stays on. I learned to take it off while making bread by hand... dough is extremely difficult to clean out of the diamond setting area!! I learned that the hard way sadly.

I'm a bit of a brat sometimes too, and whenever hubby and I get in a big fight I will take my ring off then too. He hates it, and I know I shouldn't do it, but it's one of those things for me. When I'm mad at him I can't wear my ring. It only happens during really really big fights though, which don't happen too often thankfully.

When was the last time your ring came off? Have you ever taken it off when you were mad at your spouse?

I dont wear my wedding ring everything, only sometimes. cuz I work with cleaning all the time and grease is hard to clean. Also, I have small children and I afraid that I might scratch them by accident, and plus my wedding ring diamond is too big to wear around too... So, I take off and when on weekend or free time from work, or go out with my husband then I will wear it.

I have been married for over 30 years. I wear my ring on special occasions, etc. It is so special to me that I do not want something to happen to it. I could not wear my ring when I was pregnant or gained weight (my fingers were too large for the ring). I would not be able to take my ring off because of a fight because it symbolizes my promise to my husband to be his partner for life. I do not ever want him to think that that can be broken.

I have not thought about my wedding ring in a long time in this way. Thank you for your question and reminder of my blessings.

I don't do a lot of cooking, that's hubby's job. He loves cooking. However, I would take my rings off if I did the tasks you mentioned. I don't have kids either, so I don't need to think about baithing children or cleaning up after them. My mother always takes her rings off to bake and do dirty work.

As for getting mad at hubby, I can think of one funny occurance, but it got the point across.

he was on the phone with one of his ex-wives (he has a few) and I could tell she was pulling his strings and being rather manipulative. I was trying to get him out of the line of fire, but AS USUAL my husband was allowing this woman to suck him in, and as his WIFE (no ex there!) I was sick of it. I took off my ring, and handed it to him!! I just handed it to him while hwas on the phone. He kinda looked at it for a second, and then figured out what I was trying to say, and got done with the ex right away.:) Now when he's in a similar situation "giving him the ring" is our signal that she's trying to rope him into something.

Glad he got the message. My hubby is also very willing to let people walk all over him... everyone except me that is. Sometimes that means these people end up walking all over me, and somehow he's more capable of dealing with my attitude than anyone else's.

I have never been married, but I have been engaged. I used to take that ring off during a fight. It was just a cheap little ring anyway. I got mad at him one time and threw it out the car window in the middle of the night once. Never saw that ring again.

Doesn't sound surprising you didn't end up getting married to that one, does sound like it was a very good relationship! I've thankfully never thrown my ring somewhere I couldn't retrieve it. Mine is a real diamond... not much of one mind you, but it is real. I'll throw it across the room and sometimes have to dig into a pile of clothes or toys in order to find it, but I've always managed to get it back.

I take my rings off when I do the dishes or shower. I have a lot of dishes to do and the soap and dirty water can leave a really nasty scum on the stones really quickly! I get my rings dirty enough without the help of the dishes!

I also take my rings off when I sleep. A few years ago, before I was married, I had forgotten to take my rings off one night. The next day I was going to an amusement park with a friend. We had to stop at the first aid station when we first got there. My fingers swell a bit overnight and I couldnt get my rings off! I didnt want my fingers to swell more in the heat and humidity, so I had them pry them off at the first aid station. It hurt quite a bit to have it done, but I was thankful they didnt have to cut them off! I wont be making that mistake again!

a pig to get it off . It's only a small band so I forget it's there .

I do not usually take my wedding ring off.

At times after doing some really hard work with my hands like typing a something for a long time, i take it off and it feels really really good.

Thanks and take care.

I too have a bad habit of taking my ring off. I tend to take it off whenever I am at home. I once had a diamond ring (not my wedding ring) that the whole setting fell off and we never did find it. I think that is the major reason why I would rather not where mine when I am home doing housework and stuff. I also had very dry hands and like to keep lotion on them and hate cleaning lotion out of my ring.

This is a really interesting discussion point! Well I got engaged just a short while ago so have not been wearing my ring for too long as it goes, but I can't imagine ever taking it off! I haven't taken it off yet, during cooking, cleaning etc, and I have not had any problems. It does get a little dirty sometimes but I usually give it a quick wipe and it looks okay!

I take my rings off every day. When I am doing housework I never wear them. Even when I wear gloves I take the rings off. The stones can become loose and I would rather not have that happen.

I took my ring off when messing with dough.. but I never used taking off my ring as a weapon to use against my hubby. If I had I might have been divorced sooner than I was. Actually we never fought like that.

myLot reputation of 96/100. katsmeow1213 (4931)   ranked 2 out of 755 in got married  8 months ago

I don't use it as a weapon... it's just a thing. Normally by the time I take it off, he's already left the room from fighting with me, so I'm alone when I take it off, and I leave it off until we've made up. It's not really a symbol of our marriage ending, because I never have any thoughts of divorcing him. It's just my thing, I get mad, it comes off.
