Should children be allowed carrying cellphones in schools??? |
|
In my region the schools are against it and parents are very careful about their kids. They don't allow them with cell phones.. There are many ill effects of the cell phones. But if the parents are working, then the cell phones become very important as it is the only medium to keep i touch with the kids, when every body is out or not in home. What is your opinion in this regard??? Should children be allowed with cellphones that are not too expensive...Be free to post.

2. faisai (623) | 8 months ago | I think children should not carry cellphones in school. In fact I don't think it is a good idea to let them have cellphones, inside the school or not. Just think back for a moment, do you have cellphone when you was a kid? And what do you do by then when you want to hang out with others? You arrange the time and place to meet and none of the attendees are expected to be punctual because there are no ways one can contact the others. It is by this, we learn the importance of punctuality: not because we will miss out something but because others will have to wait for you indefinitely. With cellphones, you are always free to make a call and tell others you will be late which is an incentive of not being punctual. I can assure you how many people around me are getting late these days for virtually any kind of meeting. Making the life of children simple is important to let them learn some very basic things. Offering them cellphones will make them over-reliant on it too soon.

bamakelly (3955) | 7 months ago | I know that I was not with a cell phone when I was a child mainly because they didn't really use them much back twenty five years ago. If there were cell phones they were just for the adults and it would be unheard of for kids or teenagers to have them at all. I can see what you are saying about the punctuality thing. There is not room for imagination when it comes to cell phones. Today's technology has made the world smaller and easier for people to be in touch with each other. It is one thing for adults to communicate via the cell phones and other things but there should be some lines drawn when it comes to children having the liberties that they do. It gets takes too far sometimes.

| 3. foxrocks (20) | 8 months ago | My son is 12 and we finally broke down and bought him a phone, mainly because he is involved in many sports and he can call us after practice. I think that a child should be taught that there is a time or place for cell phone use. My niece is a senior in high school and she texts everyone all day as well as checks her myspace and facebook accounts. I think this is wrong and kids should be concentrating on school and less on their friends. There is a time and a place for cell phone use and school is not one of them. My sons school makes them keep them in their lockers.

4. sublime03 (785) | 8 months ago | I think children can be allowed for as long as they only use it on break time or when they get off from classes. It is a medium for communication and without it people will definitely have a hard time reaching their kids if they have an important message to say. When I was back in high school they would ask us to keep it and if they see us using it inside the classrooms they will confiscate it right until you leave the school to go home. Gadgets I understand are forms of distraction but we cannot keep it away from children especially when we the parents are busy and needs update from our kids even via text or a 1 minute call from them.

5. maezee (4967) | 8 months ago | I think that parents should allow the kids to take them to school - but make them turn the phones off while in class, or drop them off in the office & pick them up at the end of the day. I can understand why some parents might want to always be able to get a hold of their kids, but they can't expect to interrupt the whole class just because they want to get ahold of their kids (and couldn't they just call the school, and have their child paged, if it was that much of an emergency? It's not as if schools don't have phones..)
I wouldn't give my kid a phone if she/he was under 13 years old. I just don't think any younger is appropriate.

6. krajibg (2496) | 8 months ago | Well Kiki, just tell me what you did when cell phone was not the sort of vogue when you were at school and college? You too had parents and relatives. And would not they be bothered about your well being that now parents are openly giving cell phones to their children?
I do not think that school children be allowed with the cell phone. Not only it would harm their being but also their academic career.

7. emilie2300 (1153) | 8 months ago | I think they should for the simple fact of what just happen to my kids last week.
There school bus driver was a subsute bus driver and dint take the right route took my kids at least 4 miles out of the way and if they didnt have a friend on the bus that got dropped off at the last bus they would not know what to do. There not really aloud phones in school but they take them any way for emergency.
On on this day they both forgot there phone I was so mad and upset because if they didnt have this friend they would have been stuck they got off the bus with her and went to her house.
My kids told her she made a wrong turn. Bus driver told them they on the wrong bus my daughter told her I been riding the bus for 4 years now which she has and then Imy daughter told her to get mapquest. so the bus driver called the bus company complaining about my older daughter.
So it was just crazy

8. vnrsudhan (840) | 8 months ago | hi tuyakiki, i don't really think children should have cell phones especially in schools.its ok if they have it at home and that too only when their parents are away.if children have cell phones at a very small age, they can get addicted to it and that can be really harmful.

9. nikhil_sun (433) | 8 months ago | I think that children go to school for only one purpose and that is to get educated and learn some discipline.I feel all the modern day gadgets have a distracting effect on even people let alone children.Allowing children to carry cellphones with them would lead to a lot of problems that would dwarf all the advantages that it may have.Parents should not be overly bothered about their school going kid as a responsible school would take care of its kids.Allowing a cellphone would make kids take their freedom for granted.Hence I feel cellphones should not be allowed.

10. rosekiss (4491) | 8 months ago | I don't think that children should be allowed to have their cellphones in school. The thing of it is, they would text all day, and not do their work. My grandson has a cellphone, but I don't think my daughter lets him have it in school. However he is failing, so he might be using his cellphone instead of doing his work. When I was teenager, cellphones weren't even thought of, of course they hadn't come into the picture then. If they had, I am sure that lots of kids would have had them. I knoow I wouldn't have though, as I was raised by my aunt. She never did have a cellphone or a computer in her life. I just don't think that having a cellphone in school is necessary. Kids go to school to learn and not talk on their cellphones. Well, have a very good day, and happy mylotting.
