Should children be allowed carrying cellphones in schools??? |
|
In my region the schools are against it and parents are very careful about their kids. They don't allow them with cell phones.. There are many ill effects of the cell phones. But if the parents are working, then the cell phones become very important as it is the only medium to keep i touch with the kids, when every body is out or not in home. What is your opinion in this regard??? Should children be allowed with cellphones that are not too expensive...Be free to post.

Maybe 10 years old and above is okay.
Mobile phones are for communication so its important to everyone else including children. Schools should have rules about when and when not to use their mobiles.

Each time they check their cell phone for new messages and missed calls. Long ago students did not have cell phones, they got better results and their parents were able to control them. If their parents are not t home they can use a public phone to contact them or make an arrangement before leaving home.

I feel that cellphones should never be allowed for children when they are attending school. As some quarters here have posted and deemed that this appliance is just not helping with communication but distracting them with their academics. Besides, it is also offering them a vice to their whims and most of all abuse. Cellphones today, is no longer just a basic tool for communication, it's applications and functions have been growing and every more advance. They can access the web wireless and children will be surfing without parental/proper guidance.
I do not see why and how a school cannot provide sufficient phones to let children keep in touch with their parents in an emergency or call. Also, I feel that the public phones nowadays are very undermined by telecommunication authorities. No maintenance, poor maintenance, poorly locating and even no proper strategic or innovative intention to provide for the public to have access to a working public phone.
If these public phones can be used and/or easily accessible to the public, then I am sure that a child in distress can easily call for help or their parents. Their upbringing should always include the basics of adaptability and resourcefulness. Learning to do what it takes as and when necessary.
Lastly, I feel that letting children have cellphones just makes us parents appear to be living faithlessly and lack of trust. I do not know about you, but I would feel more reassured if my child calls me from a school or home phone. A call from their cellphone just assures their presence but as to their whereabouts, it will be a big question mark. Agree?

24. Rustinas1 (250) | 7 months ago | No, I don't think children should be even bringing cell phones to school is they should happen to have one. There's no need of it. Students can go to the office if they need to call home fro some reason. Just as well as parents calling the school to get a hold of or relay a message to their child. Only the past few years has the hype of kids with cell phones picked up, but before that, children having cell phones were very miniscule, and nobody had problems getting in contact with the other.
If I was to get any kind of cell phone for children, it would be a tracfone. That way, it would definitely make them more responsible because they would have to watch their minutes. So, instead of a cell phone being a fun toy/gadget thing for them, it will more than likely be treated with respect. It would also not have a camera with it, and definitely not on an unlimited plan. If children want all those features, and features getting alot of children and teens in trouble, well then, when you are 18 and can pay for a contracted cell phone, then by all means do so. Otherwise, this is the best one's getting from me.
There's no need for all those other features, they are there to get an education, not texting left and right.

| 25. MUNISH1303 (10) | 7 months ago | Children should not be allowed to keep cellphones with them in school time. you are right if parents are working then it may be a medium to keep in touch with the kids but they can have a landline phone at home and after school they can talk to their children. having cellphones in school time is not fine. because if children will have phone with them then they will not concentrate on studies. they'll busy in playing with the cellphones and it is harmful to their studies. So in my point of view children should never be allowed to have cell phones with them atleast not in school time......

26. orang13 (313) | 7 months ago | I had that kind of policy too when i am still in high school. But still i able to manage myself without a cellphone. We can still contact our parents through the use of phones though. Cellphone can really bring something to the kids too, but at this stage of our society. It is also better to let the kids bring phones especially if their school is far from your place.

| 27. princessnella15 (20) | 7 months ago | I beieve children should have cell phones and be able to take them to school. I also believe tht the parent getting the cell phone needs to be active in knowing how to pick out the right one for their child and making sure that the child understands the proper ettiquite of using one and that it is shut off while in school. There are cell phones that have the gps or a locator chip if you cannot find your child, and if something were to happen on the way to school or after school, they would have a way of calling for help. My son is only 4 (yes it is to young) he carrys on his backpack a personal safty device (pull the pin and it makes a loud noise, everyone should have one) he knows what to do if theres an emergency. When he starts first grade, I plan on getting him a firefly cell phone (not sure on the name), where you can only program so many numbers and it has the locator chip. For me its not a matter of how much the cell phone costs its how safe can it keep my child, when I buy my son a cell phone it needs to have the gps locator on it, and if the only one in the store that has it is going to cost $500 then thats the one he will have. ( he understands the consquences if he breaks something valueable, so I dont worry about weather or not he can take care of it)

| 28. claudieseanwarrior (4) | 7 months ago | In today's fast- moving lifestyle, many gadgets have become literally indispensable and necessities, rather than luxuries.. With that come, several ill-effects and misuse leading to crimes & atrocities.. Cell phones are very much an integral part of our lives, but I strongly believe that high school children and minors shouldn't own cell- phones, plainly because it is just unnecessary.. Teenagers (in most cases) don't get to use things the way they 'should be' used since they like breaking the rules.. To contact parents at work, they can always use public telephone booths after school.. Cell phones can be safely given to the children when they turn 18..

30. aikhong (499) | 7 months ago | Ya, in my country children are not allowed to bring cellphone to school too. During my years as a student, we're not allowed to bring cellphone to school too. Students caught having cell phones with them will be punish or taken disciplinary actions. As for me, i was just even not afford to have it. In my opinion, i think this rules are necessary and it's suitable. Children in this case, are students below 18 years old. For primary school students, of course there's no need for them having cellphones. Moreover, possibly they won't have the ability to take good care of it. If the parents want to contact their kids, the kids can just use the public phone to contact their parents. Bringing cellphone to school will just create more problems such as cellphone being stolen or they lost it somewhere, and also they'll keep playing with it in the class and thus distract their attention when the teachers are teaching. These applies to secondary school students too. Moreover, cell phones actually has adverse effects on our health. So, it's better not to let the children bring it along all the time.
