help! my hamster is bleeding! email this discussion to a friend?

i dont have a vet but my hamster is bleeding, not sure where from but i think its her back feet or her tail or both, shes not tame enough for me to look. its bleeding quite a bit but its not pouring out, she is still being energetic and does not seem to be disabled by it at all.
she recently fell from the top of her cage to the bottom, landing awkwardly on her water bowl, i think thats how it happened.

do i need to take her to a vet? will she be ok until the morning?

if not who can i call now? i live in bath, uk and dont have much money.

as i type she is going her usual speed on her wheel and acting the same as normal. but im worried she is going to bleed to death. we have only had her for a few weeks.:-(

If she is going about as she usual does she will probably be ok until the morning but in the morning I would take her to the vets. My hamster got a digestive infection and bled from his bottom a couple of weeks ago the vet gave him some antibiotics and he was ok. It only cost me £9 so it's not too bad. I'd definately get her checked out.

thanks, i just rung a emergency vet, they said i should hold something aginast the bleeding but i explained that she wasnt tame enough for me to do that so she said that she could come out for a £80 call out fee then plus treatment, or i could try putting in her in a small box for a hour or two so she rests her foot a bit. so ive done tht but she aint resting lol, shes biting her way out bit by bit lol.
if the bleedin does not stop will she bleed to death?

also when i put her back in the cage do u reckon i should take her wheel out, but then she will climb more and probably fall again, so maybe i should leave it in.
my 9 year old has been in tears bless her.

You definitely need to see a vet if you haven't already. Unfortunately, part of pet ownership is being able to afford the pet, including vet bills.

It depends where she is bleeding from. Obviously the fall injured her in some way though and the vet needs to find out where. The vet will be able to restrain a hamster even if it isn't tame.

i know its part of ownership just hadnt had time to find the best vet, i think its imortant to find the best one. i am on benefits so i can get free treatment for one pet.
i rung a vet up today and she reckons she may have just bruised her bladder ro something and that it will settle down in a few days.
tea tree is still showing no signs of illness or less activity, still eatin and drinking.

also on inspecting the cage i remebered i bought her a new wooden toy, apparently safe for hamsters, it has a nut inside and the wood is painted red.

it looks chewed on and a little faded so im wondering if that might be the reason tea trees wee is red.

Okay, maybe you were just being overly dramatic then. From the way you were describing all that blood it didn't sound at all like a bladder injury. Peeing out that much blood from an injury would be pretty bad and probably have already resulted in death.

You should ask for a vet recommendation on www.guinealynx.info even though it is predominantly a guinea pig board they have people from all over the world. Usually any vet who treats guinea pigs would also be able to treat hamsters. Even if it is just a UTI or something, you'd still need antibiotics.

This is a good example though of why you should find a good vet in advance rather than waiting for an emergency to arise.

i do know that all pet owners have to find a vet and as i said i have been researching vets in the area, the hamster is fine, doing her usual thing, still eating and drinking.
