Check your childrens outside toys prior to letting them play  

Definitely a good idea. Years ago we found a wasp nest in our kids' riding toy that they kept on their grandparent's farm. Also, every year you read about kids flipping unsecured swingsets or getting cut on sharp edges. A little maintenance every year saves alot of trouble!

Hi Meandmy3, Luckily we don't have poisonous snakes where we live but thanks for the warning I am sur many parents will be more aware now. My son hasn't any outdoors tooys at present other than his bike and scotter and gardening bits, he sold his slide last week and a few other bits, oh just remmenbered he still has his trampoline. Found a few spiders on them but other than that nothing too scary. Huggles. Ellie :D

OMG! That had to be pretty frightening! I'd be in a panic if I saw that! How did they get rid of the snake? Or did they just let it be and wait for it to vacate on it's own?


The closest thing I've had is a rabbit die by their toy kitchen outside, the unfortunate thing was it was half under another toy and I didn't see it til they were out playing soooo I just made sure they stayed away so I could get hubby to take care of it.

We don't have venomous snakes here... just alot of garden snakes, too many chipmunks and clans of rabbits! Before we put the garage up, we had a shed that we kept our toys in... this was before my son so the toys I'm talking about consisted of motorcycles, dirtbikes and quads... our biggest problem was the chipmunks making nests in the motors! Now, all toys - adult and child - are kept in the garage!

Good grief, that's scary! You just hope when they are playing somewhere at someone else's house or school playground none of those creatures appear, either! A snake would have scared my children. ..um. . .spitless. And me, too!

We have always been quite careful about repairs.

More than a discussion. This is something that a parent ensures he does it all the time. You never know that jokingly children might harm themselves. Even the softest toys can be a nuisance. Eg a ur toy might create havoc if the child is allergic to the fur.

That is just too frightening for words! I am so glad that your friend found the snake before her children found it or the snake found them! I guess if that happened to me we would all get inside and be on the phone to animal control right away.



Where I live in South Florida we have an abundance of wildlife. The most dangerous of the snakes out here is the Cottonmouth or Water Mocassin. This is just a great reminder to me to be sure to check everything before my kids get on it.

Oh wow, that really is a horror story! Around here, the only snakes I have seen are black snakes. They have been huge suckers too, about 4 feet in length I'd say. Since my kids and I have just moved to another location, I don't really have many outdoor toys for them. I usually take them to the park to play anyway.

oh my goodness that looks scarey, i would freak out if i saw that inside a childs toy, fortunatelty we don;t get snakes or anything like that here, but i would fak is we did, i have a few toys that my grandson plays on when he comes to visit, but all he gets in his toys is a few little harmless spiders....
