This is the one survivor of a frosty May night of my sunflowers. It's the only one to make it. But it is nearly 4 feet tall already and yet to form a flower bud. This is going to be 8 feet tall maybe I feel. What is the average height of sunflower plants? Do you have any growing in your yard/garden etc? HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

Looks like the frost didn't hurt this one at all. Can't wait to see when it gets a flower on it. I don't have any growing.

I decided since I don't know what to put in my back flower bed that's full sun. I am just going to have my hubby til it up and I'll plant some sunflowers back there. They grow so fast thankfully w/ our short summers.

I'm glad to hear that at least this one made it. I have never tried to grow any of them before. We lost our first tomato plants this year due to a frost but the ones we replaced them with, are doing very well.

I think the height depends on the breed - I had some last year I grew from a package of seeds, they ended up over 15 feet tall. I however also grew some that get this the birds spilled out of the bird feeder and started growing in the dirt under the tree. I transplanted them to a sunny location and they grew but only about 4 feet tall every one of them. I saws some a few years ago around the corner from where I was living that were over 20 feet tall - they measured them, the seed heads were over a foot wide, that was just the seeds, not the peddles.

My Sunflower... - My Sunflower...
This is my sunflower that I grew a few years ago. It looks wet b/c I'd just watered it LOL It grew to be huge...about 6' tall. Yours looks like it's coming along great...good luck with it. ~~AT PEACE WITHIN~~ **STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS**

Hi GRADNPA BOB, Its such a shame that the others didn't survive but this one surely will be very tall and will look quite handsome. Tamara

I do not have any sunflowers this year, but I have had volunteer sunflowers get around eight feet tall. They are impossible to pull up, because their roots go as deep as their tops do. Frost has been pretty unpredictable this year.

Wow! I remember my children planting sunflowers when they were little - they were thrilled to see them grow taller than themselves. They are an excellent flower for children to grow, as they are so quick and big - almost instant gratification.
