Family Bible  

My family has a Family Bible... my dad has it. It dates the family births and deaths back six generations. Everybody in the immediate family line is included in it.
There is also a Family Temperance Pledge page for family members to sign and pledge to abstain from alcohol.
It's the only blank page in the Bible.
Says a lot about my beer swilling family doesn't it?

Yes, we have two of them. When my grandfather died 22 years ago we found a lost one in the attic going through the house. Now my parents have both of them. Honestly, it's beautiful. I never knew they were made so big. The one I fell in love with was well over standard size of paper and the illustrations in it are wonderful. I don't remember how old it is, but know it was passed from my grandfather's great grandfather. It's still in great condition, the pages are yellowed now, but they boxed it and keep it in a dry place.

Ah, isn't it wonderful to have something like that still in the family?! I have the family bible from my Father's side of the family. It's entries go way back to the early 1800's. I also have the one that preceedes that one, written in German, the ancestors native language. The one thing I got most from it was names and dates for the family genealogy I'm doing. Don't you just love how the old bibles were?! Ours has a beautiful family tree with scrolled writing to keep track of members of the family. Then there's other pages for births, deaths, marriages and baptisms. A family bible is a wonderful piece of family history that has been lovingly passed down through all those years. I'm sure you cherish yours as much as I do mine!

My father's family and my boyfriend's family all have "Family Bibles" even though none of us is Christian.

I used to have our family Bible from my mom's mother whenshe passed away. It was stolen when we were burglarised. I then acquired my husband's mother's Bible before she passed away.

You know what? I was brought up in a catholic home and there was a bible around at some stage but I was looking for one a year or two ago and there was none to be found. I asked Dad and like me, he seemed to think there should be one but I was unable to find it. He was a bit curious but not worried. I think he feels that just being Catholic raises him to a level closer to God than anyone who is not a Catholic and therefore he doesn't need to read, let alone study the bible. One of the things that has made me feel quite lacking here at myLot is people's knowledge of and ability to quote the bible. I not only have not read it but I'm not terribly familiar with it either. I would love to have a family Bible that's been handed down through the generations....perhaps my sister has our family bible...I know she was given a very beautiful, expensive Family Bible as a wedding gift.

I have ours. My grandma started giving me things afew years before she died as if she knew it wouldn't be long. It is real old and the edges are not in the best shaped. She pasted afew favorite quotes in the inside of the cover. She taught me how to take care of a Bible as she taught me respect for the flag and several patriotic songs and the pledge of aligance. She was quite a lady. I am proud she gave it to me.
