I find reading the most relaxing of all. Just to have some free time and to sit with a book while it is raining outside is sheer bliss. It is my ideal way of spending time. Given a choice, I would rather sit at home and read than go out and shop or do some other activity. It is most favorite activity other than traveling and I make it a point to carry a book while traveling or buy one if I get the opportunity to do so.
Personally when I find some free time, I would like to read a good book rather than do any other activity..
How about you all friends what are your views? Do you find reading a good book relaxing?

Hi, kiran. I think most mylotters will agree with you. Reading is exactly a good way of relaxing, both physically and mentally. Since the internet was invented, people almost forget about books. Whenever they need information, they search on the internet. But books will always be a treasure for man in the old days, today and also in the future. I once read an article called "Companionship of Books". In this article, the writer wrote
"A good book is often the best urn of a life enshrining the best that life could think out; for the world of a man’s life is, for the most part, but the world of his thoughts. Thus the best books are treasuries of good words, the golden thoughts, which, remembered and cherished, become our constant companions and comforters. Books introduce us into the best society; they bring us into the presence of the greatest minds that have ever lived. We hear what they said and did; we see them as if they were really alive; we sympathize with them, enjoy with them, grieve with them; their experience becomes ours, and we feel as if we were in a measure actors with them in the scenes which they describe."
These words are just an excerpt from this article. They fully represents the significance of books to us.
As for me, I like reading, especially literary works. When reading, I forget all the stuff around me and concerntrate on what's going on the story. I like picturing the scene in my mind as I'm reading. Reading also helps to enrich my knowledge and broaden my perspective.

Hi chenxiaoyue, Excellent views and very enlightening , thanks a lot for your response
You have summed up all the pleasures and advantages of reading.
There is no other activity that feeds and at the same time relaxes the brain as reading a good book...

It has been awhile since I read a good book. The last was A&D, as far as a book is concerned. I have been reading lots of articles, books and some magazines. So far, books are really good and I have always love reading a good book.
But maybe because I'm on the net most of the time that I get addicted to reading stuff on the net. Maybe this is the new generation read..
I could just on my cellphone and surf on a particular site and read a good hour from there. That's how I find some ideas to relax, really. Good discussion here, Kiran..

That's so cool..hope you are liking the book so far.
Many have said the book is better than the movie. I think so too..
Lying down and reading and moving from one position to another, that sounds very familiar to me. I used to do that too, ha! Especially when the storyline is very interesting..

Hi zed, guess what? I am reading Angels and Demons right now. Picked it up yesterday from a street side shop selling second hand books. I have somehow never been comfortable reading on the net. I like to relax, may be lie down and so on, also move from place to place while reading, since I have some other work to attend to as I am reading....But I have seen many people have this habit of reading on the net..

I really enjoy reading a good book. I like to wear my pajamas, cuddle up under my favorite blanket and either sit on the sofa or lie in bed. It is very relaxing.
I admit that I have never read when it was raining. I will have to do that next time it rains.

You seem to be just like me...reading is my favourite past time. It can be anything... newspaper, magazines, books, periodicals whatever I can lay my hands on and some time. I just love reading so much that when we have power cuts in the office, while others are yapping and having tea, I would rather sit with one of the magazines that come to the office. Travelling is another favourite though I must say it has become quite expensive of late. Even then, whenever I am travelling I love to carry a book with me...my son wont let me read continously, but I still manage. On weekends, when I have relatively free time, I love catching up on books that my son brings from his school library

Yes, I do, but as of recently with my mother being hospitalized and sent to a nursing home temporarily, my mind hasn't been on it at all sadly. Too busy doing other things and keeping the house up and one eye on one thing and then on another; that is crazy. so I cannot relax. But for the most part, yes it is quite relaxing and I love it when I can sit down, don't have much on my plate and my house is in order.

Hi Savvynlady, I am so sorry to hear about your mother, I hope she recovers fast .I know how things go out of gear when someone close to you falls ill. be positive and I am sure things will be back to normal soon. I too love to read when I know that I am through with my tasks for the day, and don't have to feel guilty..
Thanks a lot for your response and happy mylotting

I find reading a book relaxing. I usually read self-help books. It is the kind of book I like. But I find it more relaxing after reading because I usually sleep right after reading a book. I would just woke up and find I slept after reading.

I am also like you. My best friend is my books and I collect some good books. Though in the recent times I dont get that much time to finish a book that fast, I do finish off a book in a week.
Yes, I too love to sit near the window of a moving train or near the window or balcony on a chair with a book in hand when it rains. It gives great pleasure.

Hi Swaana, thanks a lot for your response. I think all of us book lovers never have any problem spending time , nor is there any fear of ever getting bored. Books take care of all that, besides relaxing us mentally and physically. It is such a pleasure to read a few pages before calling it a day...

Reading for me is a leisure activity and this activity not only soothes our mind but also put knowledge in our skull :) Whenever I travel I put two or three books in my bag, as without books I will be bored. I think everyone should have reading as their hobby as it not only enhances knowledge but also entertains.

I've always enjoyed reading, ever since I was a kid. It's always something that I've enjoyed doing, for some reason. It's always been a very relaxing activity, for me. Reading a good book has always helped me to enter the world of the book, relax, and avoid stress and such.

I do agree with your point of view that reading is indeed a relaxing activity to do. And also is a way of spending time. And we gain a lot of knowledge b y reading. However, I can't spend too much time on reading cause my eyes will feel very tired. My habit is usually only read from 30 minutes to 1 hour.
