Grandmothers are awesome people... |
|
My grandmother died the year after I graduated high school. She was one of the most awesome people that I ever knew in my life. She had seven children and about 29 grandchildren and many, many great grandchildren. She would now have many great great grandchildren were she still alive. She would now be 106 years old though.
Anyway, when she got sick for the first time in her life and had to go in the hospital, they were taking a 103 year old woman out of the room. My grandmother looked at me and asked me if I thought she would live that long. It was at that moment that I knew she wouldn't come home from the hospital and I was right. Anyway, I told her that I had faith in her. She did live that long though, within my heart. There are times, even today that I think I should give her a call only to remember that she isn't there any longer. She died in 1983 so that says a lot. I just truly do miss her to this day.
Do you all feel that way about your grandmother. You know, as though she will never die? If she has already died, do you find it difficult to still let go of her, as though she were still there to get your phone calls? Don't ever take your grandmother for granted. Ask questions now and always, always give her a hug and tell her you love her. If she goes to the hospital, don't put off going to see her, even for a minute. You never know when it might be the last chance you will get to see her.

ddhawkins63 (339) | 6 months ago | That's funny. I was the same way with my grandmother. I always worried about her finding out bad things that I might do and it kept me a little more in line although it didn't always work. I just didn't want to worry her to death. You know?

I'm really impressed how you felt about her and Bless her soul, she is around you. Believe it or not. Write her a letter and put it away. It's between you and her and private. TRUST ME, she'll watch you write it. I think you're more psychic than you think and I do, for some reason or another, feel you are going to find a path towards this. I know you don't believe in Ghosts, lol!, but I bet you can tell me some stories about things that have happened that you have no idea what it was. You tell yourself it's coincidence all the time. Am I correct? If not, it's ok, time will tell.

ddhawkins63 (339) | 6 months ago | haha, yes, sort of. I beleive in God and I know that when something bad happens that it happens for a reason. I sometimes think it's coincidence but not always. As for my grandmother, my brother had a dream about her several years ago. It scared him I think. She came to him and told him something, not sure what, but she also introduced him to her mother. I would like to get an old picture of my great grandmother to show my brother to see if that is what she looked like in the dream. He woke up in sweats. He said it was too real to not be. I wish I would see her like that though. It's never been the same without her.

Kashmeresmycat (1279) | 6 months ago | That's a great idea about the photo. I think you should show it to your brother to see what happens. He's got nothing to be afraid of, it's your Grandmother, and of course she's not going to hurt anyone. Tell him not to be afraid, I know you wouldn't be. It might be scary at first but wouldn't it just be so great in the long run?

ddhawkins63 (339) | 5 months ago | Oh, I think that he wasn't scared, but more in shock than anything. He loved her very much and the feeling was overwhelming for him to see her again. It's funny that of all the people in the family, that she visited him. I'm glad she did though.

3. geniustiger (936) | 6 months ago | Yes it is perfectly right! I have also an awesome grandmother in one side of my mother too. She is so loving with us grandkids. If we can visit at her house she will cry of happy tears that she feels so glad to meet us. Then she will prepare all the things for the meals with here best to be being so warm and hospitable to her beloved grandkids. We love to visit her always because she gave more time for us, love, share moments and try her best to do something to have things to be brought in going back at home . I really appreciate my grandma for that . I missed he so much too.

ddhawkins63 (339) | 6 months ago | Aww, that's so sweet. My grandmother wasn't a great cook or anything, but she would come over and babysit us when we were very young. She would do all the little kid games like this little piggy and she would also take her false teeth out to scare us with them haha

ddhawkins63 (339) | 6 months ago | Thank you for your response! My thing was that I was working at McDonalds at the time. I had just come home from work and was in the shower. My brother called me out of the shower and said that our mother called and said that we needed to get to the hospital right away. We both knew what that meant. Then my brothers car wouldn't start so we had to get my step sister to drive us to the hospital. She had already passed away. I should have gone down the day before. I talked to her on the phone and told her I would be up to see her the next day. There was no next day for her because she passed away the next day. I just wish I had seen her one more time before she left. She was such a good person.

5. book1962 (14523) | 6 months ago | hi same as my Grandma. I lived with her for the most part of my life. She moved in with us when I was 4 or 5 and she passed away when I was 25. I still miss her as much as back then though I know that is how life treats us that we got to let go of the people we love one day. I am often recalling these lovely memories only a grandma can create for us I guess. Mine was very patient with us grandkids, my two older cousins and me, she was an excellent cook and baked wonderful cakes. She played with me, she read bedtime stories to me, and most important of all she took me to church from an very early age onwards as soon as I could sit still during the holy Mass and so she gave me a great foundation in faith. I remember her doing some household chores and singing hymns while mixing cake dough on Saturday afternoons so there was cake on Sundays.

ddhawkins63 (339) | 5 months ago | Oh yes, my Grandmother made wonderful fudge. I miss that hahaha. She was older when she had my mother, nearly forty. So she was already up in years by the time I came along, but she was the best grandmother that anyone could have asked for. Thanks for sharing your memories!
