Will this stop the PANDAmonium?  

I can understand their celebration and it feels so good that they are rejoicing the new born. However, its kinda bizarre how they are treating the elephants just in an endeavor to pull more crowds and satisfy the stupid whims. Can you beat the agony that the poor animals have to go every day?

They are painted with colours, then paraded and made to perform in front of school children. All this to draw the attention back to the elephant. The elephants must be going through anagonising time and moreso now with all the extra attention.

I think this is even more inane since we kinda create the craze. The fun part is OK but what after it dies down, it really makes us to ponder over the urgency of the make over.

This is interesting and the pandaphants look great! But I was bit taken aback by the insensitivity of the zoo authority. The poor animals are made to go through a real make over and that is painful!

I'm no expert on elephant emotions, but they don't look too distraught! Maybe they enjoyed it? Everyone appreciates a make-over don't they?

They look fatigued? I reckon being an elephant would pretty much mean that you're ALWAYS fatigued. That's a lot of weight to be lugging around!

Take the look of fatigue as one of resignation or quiet and wry humour ...

"What daft idea will these idiotic humans dream up next? Still, it gets us looked at and admired and what, after all, better gives an elephant that "scratch-behind-the-ears" feeling?

I think its innovating and first of its kind, if only the poor animals are not over stressed! If they ensure this, I would be apart of this very much.

I know, you're a superb artist, mimpi1911. Do you like mural drawing? I learned something good from India members, to balance up my right and left brain functions, I have to practice more on drawing in whatever type of it; sketching, painting, etc.; so know I am learning about how to get it started by heart or play by ear. I think better start with sketching your avatar...hahahahaha! am I right, mimpi1911?.

I prefer elephants over Pandas, too, and just want to add that NOBODY had better try spanking an elephant. Elephants are highly intelligent and should be treated with kindness and respect!

Newzealtrailian, elephants are well known to have a good sense of humour and to love dressing up. I don't doubt that they didn't know that they were supposed to look like pandas (or even what a panda was, though, coming from a zoo, they might have seen one).

Elephants can and do smile (though they hide it beneath their trunk) and they have an incredibly wicked sense of humour.

I think elephants are good in their skins and so are the pandas and so is any other being. I rather not dress up like someone who has immense credibility and fame. I better be myself, the way I am. Weird, quirky and whatever you call me.

That's a pertinent point you have made. I think, it would be utterly confusing for the little ones as well. They would be confused as to the identity of the animals. They are tender minds, they do not know the masquerades.

The fun part it OK but once that dies down things start to annoy a little bit. I just cannot understand the need to cater to some asinine craze, most of which we kinda create.

As an animal love, I do feel that way too..

I think all animals are beautiful in their own ways and we must respect each of them for the individuality they come with naturally. May be, I am going overboard and the zoo authority has enough respect for its inmates, but I am very passionate about it.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with being passionate about what you believe in. Its much appreciated actually, at least for me.

I am wondering if your panda would submit to having his coat covered with grey, wrinkly mud and a hosepipe attached to his nose to make him look like an elephant. Somehow I doubt that, placid as they seem to be, pandas would have that depth of humour.

No we pandas are quite serious we do not understand the complexities of human pranks

Hahaha....that would be the last thing the zoo authority would want.I just hope the nature God is merciful to them.

OK, I have thought about it and looked at the pictures and decided it is not only inane, but inexcusable to ridicule the elephants in this manner. Instead of painting the elephants, if they wish to draw positive attention to the elephants and made some money too, they should give the elephants paint sets and canvas and let them use their trunks to create original works of art to be sold to the public. They have done this in many zoos here in the US and around the world and some of the elephant painters were selling their works for thousands of US dollars not because people felt sorry for the elephants but because some of the elephants were excellent artists.
