oh my goodness if i see one more person on the phone while driving I am going to screeaaaaammmmmm!!!!!!!!!!!! How many people think that cell phone driving shoule be banned. I DO. I was with my cousin and looking into the other car this girl was so engrossed in her cell phone conversation she did not even bother to put at least on hand on the steering wheel. I wanted to literally roll my window down and ring her neck for being so careless. Well drunk driving was considered to be high in car crashes and now the new car crash killer CELL PHONES AND TALKING AND TEXTING.

Talking in texting in California is against the law.
From the dmv dot ca dot gov under cellphonelaws
The new Wireless Communications Device Law (effective January 1, 2009) makes it an infraction to write, send, or read text-based communication on an electronic wireless communications device, such as a cell phone, while driving a motor vehicle.
Two additional laws dealing with the use of wireless telephones while driving went into effect July 1, 2008. The first law prohibits all drivers from using a handheld wireless telephone while operating a motor vehicle, (California Vehicle Code [VC] §23123). Motorists 18 and over may use a “hands-free device. The second law effective July 1, 2008, prohibits drivers under the age of 18 from using a wireless telephone or hands-free device while operating a motor vehicle (VC §23124).
Below is a list of Frequently Asked Questions concerning these laws.
(I am only putting two main questions)
Q: When did the wireless communications device (no texting) law take effect?
A: The law took effect January 1, 2009.
Q: When did the handheld wireless telephone laws take effect?
A: The laws took effect July 1, 2008.
They can use bluetooth:
Drivers 18 and over are allowed to use a “hands-free” device to talk on their wireless telephone while driving. The following FAQs apply to those motorists 18 and over.
It goes on to say that they are not supposed to dial while driving.
I hope this helps, I am not sure how many States have this law.
It is something that I am sure people think they can get away with and do it.

I have an eye condition that prevents me from driving.
I am not sure how effective the law is. there was a countdown where the news media where I live would tell the public how many days before the new law started and that they needed to buy a bluetooth if they had to drive and talk.
I do not see that many people on the phone and driving, but then again eye condition, lol.
This is kind of early for me. Dogs woke me up

In italy driving while using the cell phone is against the law, there is a heavy fine of 160€ and 5 points (you have 20 points when you get your license and gain 2 point every 2 year without infractions) are taken away from your driving license.
But anyway many people still do this, i think it is a very dangerous habit since people are really distracted when using the phone.
Happy mylotting

I really don't know how things work for waterways, but i think there is not a point system as for roads, as for the driving with the suspended license rarely people do that because if they are caught there are very high fines up to 10000€, the problem is instead that if people are not stopped by the police to identify the driver, people can choose to not declare who was driving the vehicle and pay an additional fine of 250€.. that seems to be much, but considering how difficult is to regain points it is still an easy way out, or is often declared falsely that some elderly relative who doesn't drive anymore but still has the license was driving.

hi ra1787, we have a point system here in the US too, but I think that people will do what they want to do because how many time do you find people driving with a suspended license!!! But that is good to know that there are laws around the world top help protect people. What about the waterways do the same laws apply? And are the waterways only in certain parts of Italy or are thy all over? Thanks for your response. happy mylotting to you too !!!!!!!!

It's against the law here in the UK-they still do it! A well publicised case here had a Woman tracked by a police helicopter and followed til they stopped and arrested her cos a patrol saw her at the wheel at lights munchin an APPLE! (Cos She had her hand off the wheel..)IIRC,I think the Judge thought it a waste of resources bringing in the helicopter..It wasn't like She had tried to run and it was a high speed hot pursuit issue!

Looks like I didn't get my facts in the right order...I was quoting this case from memory as I remembered it being reported,so it appears from this linked report the helicopter wasn't actually used to apprehend the Woman involved, but that Evidence from the Helicopter's deployment was used in her Prosecution..They DID charge her for driving with an apple in her hand, though!

Thanks for your response

i really hate that too.
accidents can happen in seconds, in a blink of an eye, and these people texting while driving its really annoying.
they dont think that when accidents happens, crash, they are not the only ones who will suffer, what if they hit another car, or hit a person walking or crossing the street. they really are so

Talking and texting on the phone are against the law in my state, but because the police department in my town is short-staffed, it is rarely enforced. However, if the police do see someone driving dangerously and they are on their cell phone, the driver will get pulled and have to pay a larger fine.
When I do have to text, I wait until stoplights and try to keep it as short as possible. I hate having to talk on the phone while driving, and I try to pull off the road when I can.

Hi inkstainedheart, I am glad to hear that you are a responsible driver smile, yeah unfortunately in small towns where police is small staffed it is allot harder to uphold every law that is being broken. But that is good to hear that they do try to to there part in upholding the law in your town. I remember in my city the mayor decided to let go allot of police officers, medical paramedics, and fire department due to budget cut, that was a few years ago. And every since then crime has sky rocketed and there are not enough police, to uphold the law. its really crazy!!!!!!! thanks for your response.

Yes it should be banned. In each and every state. It's dangerous, it's annoying, and it causes bad habits and bad manners. Plain and simple.

Hey,
Driving while using your phone where I live is also against the law. But for some reason I still see people doing it, I have no idea why, but they just do it. Maybe people still like to break the law, the might think its 'cool'. Make sure you have a good day, Happy Lotting!!

I wait until I get home from where I am at to call on the cell phone. It makes it easier. I have tried to drive before and talk on the cell phone, and it is a little harder as I have one hand on the steering wheel and one on the cell phone. I have just dedided that I shouldn't do that anymore. I could get into an accident, and possible get killed or kill someone else. I definitely wouldn't text message and drive and those that do that, are just asking or it bit time. In m state as of the first of next year, it will be against the law to talk on the phone and drive, and I am all for that. The best thing that people can do is either wait to call someone, or use a bluetooth headset, that way their eyes are on the road tneir hands on the steering wheel. Have a great day, and happy mylotting.
