Would You Want To Be Filmed Whilst At The Gym? |
|
I was busy working up a sweat at the gym today (ok, no surprises there!) when the gym instructor came over to me, now normally they ignore me and I am usually invisible, well he asked me if I wouldn't mind being asked some questions about the gym, some local reporters had come in.
Well you know me and my poor self-esteem I asked if they were going to film me he said yes and straight away I said NO, he laughed and walked away, so I don't know what he was implying
Well I saw the film crew come in and interview a few people. I was drenched in sweat, and I think my responses to any questions about the gym would have erred on the negative side because the gym is unfriendly and a few other things I am not happy about, but it's cheap and it's all I can afford. So I expect they'd edit anything I said that wasn't favourable out. So there's no point is there?
So if you were busy exercising or were all sweaty and felt horrible would you want to be interviewed and filmed? Even if you did have positive things to say about the gym?
I am still wondering why the guy laughed when I said no after I said would I be filmed, guess I am being paranoid again!

11. Humbug25 (4101) | 6 months ago | Hi wolfie34
I wouldn't want to be interviewed on film either after having a work out but I would want to get my points across about the gym be them negative or not. If they are professional journalists then it should be important to them to get a variety of opinions from everybody. If it was a personal thing the gym was doing then how else are they supposed to improve things if they don't get to hear what their users aren't happy with? I would have said you can interview me but after I have finished my workout and have showered!! I think they guy laughed because he didn't know what else to say because he probably thought you would have said yes.

wolfie34 (13873) | 6 months ago | Yes you could be right there, he is built like a brick shi*ehouse and probably thought I wouldn't say no to him! Well sorry matey but this face ain't going near no camera besides I probably did them a favour on two counts, one adverse publicity and second I'd break their camera with my ugly mug LOL!

12. FFFrocks (197) | 6 months ago | I would have said no too, but then again, me in a gym is a rare thing. All I'd do is stare at the machines and wonder how to use them. As for why the guy laughed, what you have to ask yourself is do you really care what he thinks? I think not..... And cheer up, if that pic you got there is of you I would say your a good looking man!

wolfie34 (13873) | 6 months ago | True, what do I care about him, I don't need him and he's not very informative or friendly either, and yes that is me and thank you for the compliment you made me smile which is rare these days;0) Oh and welcome to Mylot!

13. worldwise1 (6100) | 6 months ago | I can understand where you're coming from, wolfie, since I am camera-shy myself. I don't believe you are being paranoid at all. I'm sorry that your experience with that gym has not been such a pleasant one. If you had given an interview it would have served no purpose under those circumstances. It could be that the reason the guy laughed when you refused is because he might have already picked up on the shyness in you. I wouldn't give it a second thought if I were you.

wolfie34 (13873) | 6 months ago | It is not the most friendliest of gyms my friend but it's all I can afford, I miss my last gym I used to go to it was a private one cost more but it was when I was living with my ex, what a difference! Guys actually SPOKE to me! Which is a rarity and the staff all new me, it was bliss. Oh well I see this gym for what it is, it has what I need, and I have my Ipod to keep me company, Im usually too busy to chat anyhow, too busy sweating and concentrating on my body. Thanks for making me feel good (as always!)

14. laurahen (315) | 6 months ago | I think that this is something that you shouldn't worry about. I completely understand and probably would have turned down the offer as well (because i always look extremely gross at the gym). i think he laughed because most people (in normal not sweaty situations) would want to be on the news. he probably thought it was ridiculous that you had turned down such a good offer but let you do what you wanted to do.

wolfie34 (13873) | 6 months ago | I wouldn't even have done it for an incentive either. I was actually quite pleased with myself for having the power to say no, saying no to someone is not always that easy! Welcome to Mylot.

laurahen (315) | 6 months ago | Well good job! It's really is hard to say no, especially to pushy people who have certain incentives (such as being on the news.) You have to be pretty strong to be able to do that. And thanks! I'm really enjoying mylot! It's a great community of people.

17. dawnald (9739) | 6 months ago | I don't like being filmed under any circumstances, but especially not in an unflattering light. But you know, if you had said something negative, those reporters probably would have made the whole story about that.
Reminds me of the time my brother and his family were on a cruise and there was some kind of an outbreak of e-coli or something. My sister-in-law was interviewed and she said it really wasn't the cruise line's fault and that overall they were very satisfied. But the only interviews that showed on the local TV station were the ones complaining about the cruise and the cruse company and so on.

wolfie34 (13873) | 6 months ago | Exactly! They filter out what they don't want, which makes it all so biased and one sided. So I'd only be wasting my time!

dawnald (9739) | 6 months ago | Depends on what their agenda is. If you had said exactly what they were looking for, you would have been up front and center!

18. guybrush (3500) | 6 months ago | There is no chance in hell I would allow myself to be filmed at the gym ... or indeed, anywhere! I run a mile if anyone brings a camera out - there are probably less than half a dozen photos of me which have been taken over the past 30 years. Recently, our Prime Minister's wife was photographed working out at her gym - I feel it was a gross invasion of her privacy (she wasn't asked, and the camera was a telephoto lens used through a window!) - and people doing this should be fined and punished, rather than being paid huge amounts of money for their invasive pictures! If it was made illegal, some of these paparazzi would finally get the message and leave people alone.

wolfie34 (13873) | 6 months ago | Get the message my friend? That would take intelligence and sadly they don't possess that and yes it should be made illegal, maybe our beautiful Diana would still be alive today:0*(
