Trust me... having done 6 x 8hour shifts in the last 8 days I have no desire to discover the delights or otherwise of the PVC jumpsuit in a sauna experience!! The uniform, plus the plastic apron, plus the latex gloves, plus having the curtains drawn round the bed as you single-handedly try to manouevre large, elderly, incontinent people into positions where you can change their bedsheets from underneath them must give a similar sensation and it is NOT pleasant(going to the regular job was no better either )

You've provided some examples here that are extremely relevant to me Alok and here's why!

- I HAVE walked barefoot on coals before as part of a motivational exercise and it WAS ridiculously hot even though we're not supposed to feel anything! I guess this must mean I lack motivation or something?

- I just tried to light my cigarette with the air itself and nothinh happened. I'll go outside after this post and try again.....

- I once got my butt kicked for frying an egg on the bonnet of my Dad's car! We were having a 45+ degree heat wave in Australia at the time and I couldn't resist trying this experiment. The egg took a while to cook, but it cooked alright! Man did I get in trouble for that one!

- There aren't many trees here where I live so maybe they've decided to relocate to cooler climes?

I remember an egg lorry crashing just outside our house on a hot summer day years ago. Luckily no-one was injured (except Humpty Dumpty and his mates of course) All the residents were told to just help themselves to any of the boxes but there were so many that my mum suggested calling local residential homes so we all joined in to gather them up. The fire brigade came out to hose the area down but it stunk of rotten egg for weeks!! Interestingly enough the other vehicle involved was a Danish bacon container lorry... which, to people's disappointment, was empty at the time.

What an interesting circumstance! It's a shame that the bacon truck was empty though. All that was missing really was an orange juice tanker! I've always dreamed of having a group of buses filled with Sports Illustrated models get flat tires in front of my apartment buiding, but stuff like this never seems to happen in Cairo.

Yeah it's winter down under at the moment and although I'm not a fan of the cold, it all sounds pretty appealing at this moment in time! It's gonna get hotter here too. I reckon the devil's balls would be pretty damn hot too. Sizzling even! Happy Independence Day to you as well Dana!

I just watched an episode of Bourdain in Australia and it made me desperately want to go...and then I remembered you guys have the highest concentration of deadly spiders and other assorted meanies...lol even your ants make our fire ants seem like cuddly kittens...LOL

We have Australia Day on the 26th January! There's a few misconceptions about Australian critters too, Yes there are many deadly snakes, spiders and other animals, but attacks are very rare overall. As long as you use your head and don't put yourself in dangerous situations in far flung places, it's not an unsafe country at all really. I don't even remember the last time I saw a snake in suburbia! I've been bitten by redback spiders before though and man do they hurt.

Yeah, with my luck I'd come visit and get bit by a spider while getting off the plane...lol

Oh yes! The redback and funnelweb spiders like to leap hundreds of metres into the air and attach themselves to landing planes! Did I not mention this? Oh well, it seems you knew anyway! (I think it's close to a year now since I've seen it raining here) Having it pour down after a stinking hot day is great too. It's steamy at first, but once everything cools down a little, it's fantastic! Perfect for horse walking too. And for the record, Cairo heat IS a dry heat and I don't go sitting in an oven 'cos I don't have one. If I did have one, I'd sit in it for sure just to prove a point.

but i like specifics. it will rain here every day fo the next month then we won't get good rain again until winter. well, what passas for winter in arizona. most people don't consider 60 degree days "winter weather".
i prefer horse riding over horse walking anyday but it is much nicer for me to walk when its 80 than when its 105.
i forget sometimes that you're weather is as miserable as mine. i get used to people from nice, cool places talking about how hot it is.

Oh yes, the Brits having a good whine because they're struggling with the heat and it's in the mid 20's! (Celsius, I don't know the fahrenheit system) Most of my relatives are in the UK and they love to complain about how hot it is when the temperatures are actually quite mild compared to where you and I are. Go spend a day in Dubai in August/September and see how ya like it! Still, you;ve got a month of rain ahead and that's not bad if you ask me. I'm sure you'll be sick of it by the end of the month though, be glad to see it gone; and then 3 months later will wish for it back!

Re the MJ funeral thing-there was some kind of a lottery going for tickets to a Memorial event for him,and the news item I listened to said the hits on the website promoting it was something astronomical..I never thought it actually was possible to cook an egg on a car-Why was the Dad Mad? didn't he get offered any?

Dad was mad 'cos it left a mark on his paintwork! No sense of humour at all really and where the heck was the support for me being so scientifically minded? lol. Flaming bamboo rods! I can smell it even when just thinking about it! It hasn't been 47 yet this time around, but this was one of the days last summer. What was really horrendous about this particular day was that it was really windy as well! It was like having the air looking to scorch the skin off your face and I've never experienced anything like it. I have no doubt that it will get up to the mid 40's and above within the next month or so and I'm really not looking forward to it at all. So far, the highest recent temperature has been 41. 30+ for Holland sure sounds hot too! I never realised it got that high there. Now, you'll have to excuse me as I'm planning on making the world's biggest ice cube somehow so I can carve it into a sofa! lol.

I'll excuse you in an instant knowing it gets so hot there! Yep, we do get very hot days here during summer, and we sometimes get a little snow in the winter. When I was young we would have snow more often and when my parents were kids every winter. Seems like global warming is taking it's toll. Usually it doesn't get that hot in here, but we do have a couple of very, very hot days and some less (but still very hot if you are not used to it, lol) summer weeks.

Aw, that's a pity, James. Snow can be a lot of fun. When you need to travel though, especially when it starts to melt a bit and it gets all slushy, it can be a pain in the behind . There are more travelaccidents when there is a lot of (slushy) snow on the road.

I guess the cube would float all by itsself, so there wouldn't be any need to pay for shipping or customs. Thing is.. how would you steer the darn thing and make sure it isn't melted half it's size ones it gets to you?

I do regret we get less snow as it used to be a common sight and it was a part of growing up here. I have heard numerous teachers saying that it becomes harder to teach children the difference between fall and winter because it doesn't differ that much anymore except that it's colder. Not even all the leafs come off if it's not a harsh winter. I'd wish it would come back more often so that the next generation can still witness it.

Yes you;re probably right about the engine! It seems some serious planning's in order here. In Egypt we have stinking hot and then a period where it's not! That's about it really. There are certainly no seasons here that's for sure! I'd quite like to witness all 4 seasons one after the other actually. Especially Autumn or fall! The leaves on the trees browning etc look amazing. The Spring blooms after Winter must be amazing too.

It does need some serious thinking indeed, James. It reminds me about the myth I saw on the tv show mythbusters where they build a boat out of frozen newspapers. The thing did float and they even put a heavy and powerfull engine on board. After some time the boat started to fall apart and left a trail of newspapers in the water, but it did keep up rather nicely for some time. Depending on where the cube is located, this could save you lots of money .

The hottest day we've had here this year so far has been 35 C, but with the high humidity it feels much hotter. And I really hate hot weather...my metabolism makes me sweat like a pig in anything above 29 C or thereabout.

Humidity's an absolute killer when it comes to tolerance levels, no question! Mumbai was unbelievable in that sense and even in winter, it was around 30 most days with a ridiculously high humidity. It was like living in a steam room some days! Here it's at least drier, but man it's hot! Right now it's 34 degrees and it's 7 PM in the evening!

Hahahahahahaha, not as hot as my blushing cheeks I don't think! lol. I'd love to be in the middle of a rainy period right now, but it rarely rains here. I've seen it rain only the once in the last year and even that was only a light shower. If it started to pour down, I'd be standing out in it for sure!
