Michael's Daughter and Brooke Shields gave the best speeches |
| |
| The memorial service was good yesterday but not so much so that it truly got to me except for two spots. When Brooke Shields spoke of her friendship with Michael and when his daughter spoke. I broke down at that point. I grew up with the Jackson Five and used to be a fan of Michael but that faded out as I got older. I never hated him or anything like that, but just lost interest. How did everyone feel when they saw his daughter speak about what a great father he was and about Brooke Shields friendship with him and where in the hell was Diana Ross? Wouldn't you think she of all people would be there? | | | | | |

| | I think the glasses, much like the glove that each of the brothers wore, was out of tribute to Michael and some of his customs. I didn't care for any of the speeches that weren't close with him, but I loved Brooke Shields and Michael's daughter. That was from the heart if nothing else was. I think trying to let the fans speak may have been a little difficult to do. I think it was about letting his fans in on what kind of person he was aside from the performer. There was a man behind all the song and dance too. It's just that no one really knew him except a choice few. | | | |

| | I don't think it is fake or they are just faking. I've notices that they are not so prepared because as the news said that it took the production only three days to come up with the tribute. | | | |

| | Ms. Ross reportedly had security issues. She has lots of stalkers and weird fans. I didn't watch it but saw Paris' part on the news. Heartbreaking. More heartbreaking was hearing that there was a rumor--I saw it dispelled in Google News--that it was a prepared speech and she was only pretending to cry. People can be so mean and petty, it's a shame we have to have such people involved in the media. I absolutely hate our media, they're like vultures picking at carrion. | | | | | | |

| | Ms. Ross should have been there. If his children and family could bear it, she should have as well. Every big star has "weird stalkers". If it had been the other way around, Michael surely would have been at her funeral. I think it's inexcusable. But, I guess we all have our own things. I don't think that was a planned speech. I really don't beleive that at all. The media will do what they want to get attention. I really believe that his daughter is heartbroken. I guess time will tell because if that is true, she will eventually come out and say it is. :-) Thanks for the response! | | | |

| | Well I consider myself a fan since I was 13 and he was 11. I thought the memorial was beautiful and I cried on and off throughout the two hours. Smokey Robinson read a letter from Diana Ross in the beginning which I didn't hear the whole thing at all. However, I think she just couldn't handle it and said something to the affect if Michael's kids need me I will be there for them. When Mariah Carey started singing "I'll be there" that was it the waterfalls started and subsided when Al Sharpton spoke. I cried when Brooke spoke, when Jermaine sang "Smile" and of course when Paris his daughter spoke. The best remark spoken to the kids was from Al Sharton when he said, your daddy was not strange but what he had to go thru was strange. That was a great moment because I just think he was so misunderstood and people judged him so much. I just feel he gave so much to the world and the world gave him so little. What makes me more sad about his passing is the fact that he died alone with out finding true happiness with a person. I'm grateful that he had his three kids but now they have no parents at all and that will be hard for them. | | | | | | |

| | Yes, indeed very well said lelin1123. I agree with when you said that he died alone without finding true happiness with a person. Yes, I also believe that he was just misunderstood, that he grew up without experiencing true happiness, except of course, that he was blessed with three children. However, I just found it odd that he never had a lasting relationship with someone and I feel sorry for him. I'd like to quote an excerpt from an article in the Reader's Digest that goes, "People of all ages and backgrounds, at all stages of success and failure, need love and recognition in order to live happily. We need these in order to defeat two arch enemies of human happiness--loneliness and insignificance." Michael may have been given a lot of recognition but I believe that he was a lonely person. Yes, I also broke to tears when Paris spoke of her daddy. My heart really went out to Michael's children. I also cried when the performers sang "We Are The World" and Jennifer Hudson sang, "Will You Be There?" It was only then that I noticed that Michael's lines in between the song were so like Michael. When we read the lines that said "Will You Still Care.?" It's there that he really spoke of what he was going through. Rest In Peace, Michael. | | | |

| | Thank you all for your responses. I agree as well. He was a lonely man even though he had so many that loved him, it was his performances, not the man that people were looking at. His talents were awesome, but you do need love in order to get along in the world. That is why I liked Brooke Shields speech so much. She let us glimpse the man that he was in real life. The true friend that she had found in him and that she had been one to him. It seemed like so many that spoke knew little of the true man that he was but rather the singer and dancer, the performer that we all know. Again thank you for your comments. | | | |

| | I think that Michael is resting now. He no longer has to moonwalk in order to be loved :-) He was a great talent here on Earth, but surely he was tired and it was time for him to go home. He didn't get his great comeback tour, but he did get a really great goodbye tour thanks to the memorial services. Thank you for your comment. | | | |

| | Hi, I did not get to see the service for Michel, I was working that day. I have heard some things aobut it on the net and talk raido. I heard his dauters speach and heard it on the radio. it was touching indeed. I am not sure what was going on with Diana Ross but that is a good point you bring up since there was suposed to be some king of relatiohship there too. | | | | | | |

| | Michael adored Diana Ross. In fact, he idolized her. I just think it is a shame on her for not showing up. I really thought that she would put forth a performance actually. Considering the circumstances. You know, Elton John did a song for Princess Diana when she died. He's a diva too, but daggone, Come on Diana, you could have shown some respect. :-) It was a good service, but I really took to Brooke Shields speech and Michaels daughter Paris. That was who he was beyond the performer. Thanks for the response! | | | |

| | I listen the Michael Jackson, Memorial service on the radio, it was very moving, I have lost touch with Michael Jackson, when I got older also, but when I heard that he died, it just did something to me, when I came to Chicago to visit my sister, my family and I drove around town, and we seen this one place, where they had flowers and candle honering Michael Jackson, then on today 7-8,2009 we went to visit Gary Indiana, were Michael Jackson grew up, and I took Pictures of the house the Michael Jackson, gew up in, it was very moving, to see the House Michael Jackson grew up in. | | | | | | |

| | Oh, that's nice that you got to do those things. I live too far away to do them. It is ashame that Michael had been through so much abuse by his father in that Gary, Indiana home and on the road etc. Maybe he would have turned out a little differently as far as worrying so much. He was a perfectionist because his father did what he did to him. I have no doubt that he got "weird" as he got older. I don't think it was the fame he couldnt' handle. I think it was his father that drove him to the surgeries and all. After all, we all look up to our parents and expect love from them. His father was very abusive and that is one person that you should always recieve love from. Thanks for your comments. | | | |

| | I did not watch the whole memorial but watched some snippets on the tube. Must say that Paris speech especially tugged at my heart. It was heartfelt and a really momentous one. Mariah's singing was nice but I think her voice broke along the way maybe because she was trying to hold out certain emotions. | | | | | | |

| | I noticed the break in her voice as well. I didn't cry at all, almost during Brookes speech but not quite. But when Paris spoke, oh man, that was a killer for me. My brother kept calling me throughout the service. I am not a particular fan of Al Sharpton, but he got it right with telling the kids it was not their daddy who was strange but the things he had to deal with that were strange. I didn't agree with everything he said, but that's just me. Thank you for your response. | | | |

| | Yes, Brooke and Paris were very genuine. They spoke from the heart. I also like what Smokey Robinson said about being a firm believer in blessings - that MJ was a blessing - that he lived in the era of MJ. Ain't those the best tribute one can bestow a loved one? | | | | | | |

| | I also liked the story about the Kentucky Fried Chicken. I think I had heard that before, but it was a good way to bring a little humor and show that Michael was just like everyone else. He just happened to have an amazing talent. I wish that he could have stuck with being himself throughout his life though. He was such a good looking young man and he destroyed himself with those surgeries and the doctors that performed them are to blame. If they had said no to him, he wouldn't have been able to do those things to himself. Michael will always be that little boy to me. Thanks for the response | | | |

| | MJ was very much human to me. I hold the people who discriminated him responsible for his subsequent actions. A person can only take too much. With a superb talent oozing, psychology says that it is possible that his emotional quotient might be affected easily. He simply wanted to belong to this world he loved so much. And the those selfish people abused him - with surgery, with name-calling, with lawsuits, etcetera. Had I been in his shoes, I'd be dead early on. | | | |

| | Diana Ross got too big for her own self. She didn't just lose fans there though. She has lost fans around the world for many years. Her attitude is one thing. To be a diva is one thing. But to not show up at the funeral of a man that was, well, I will just say, Michael was too good for her. He absolutely adored her and I have nothing good to say about her when it comes to this. Seriously, who does she think she is. Big headed, that's what I say. She has no good excuse for not showing up. I don't care what anyone else thinks. No, Paris didn't give a speech, so to speak. But she did rip my heart out with what she said. It appears she has formed a very strong bond with Janet whom she clung to throughout the entire day. I'm glad to see that she has found such a strong bond with Janet. I think Janet and Michael were very close. I can't be sure of that. I just have a feeling they were. | | | |

| | When and how did I double post????.... Thats strange Oh well... Paris certainly got many of us choked up and yes I was so happy to see her/them looking so comfortable with the family or atleast Janet. I have always heard that Michael and janet were close though I thin some long time ago there was some rift between them. Enough about Diana though. She's not even worth this discussion at this time. Sometimes the most unlikely things which happen are blessings in disguise. | | | |

| | The daughters speech is the only part which got me teary eyed. I do not agree they were the best speeches but then I was not watching very closely. The daughter did not make a speech as such. But what she did was just so ouching. I enjoyed Brook Shield's speech in parts and the Sharpton guy made some good comments. I liked Ushers performance. As for Diana Ross, I believe with age her vain and selfish behaviour is increasing. She performed at huge annual concert here just last year or the year before I believe and trust me... I doubt she has many fans left here. The Jazz and Blues festival is usually a sold out event which spans three days and features great international artiste such as Air Supply, Lionel Richie, Kenny Rogers, Michael Bolten and many many more who appeal to the Jamaican Public. In that year she was the main act and the woman refused to have her performance transmitted over the big screen televisions set up for that purpose. Its a huge gathering and of course those not close to the stage got to see nothing and they had paid their money to see this woman perform. I swear people must have gone home and destroyed any of her collections they may have had. Patrons were hopping mad. Her own children tried to talk sense into her but to no avail. The programme organisers did say they were considering legal actions (if I remember correctly) and I hope they did. For sure though they ammended the terms in the contract to ensure no artiste pulled that stunt again. | | | | | | |

| | Canellita, yes, there were moments, even while watching it live that we didn't know who some people were. They did put it up on the screen if you watched it on television, but if it hadn't been for that we wouldn't have known. Thank you for your comment. | | | |
