Disabled but not in wheelchair  |

|  I've been looking online for places that have disabled access, but mostly they just say they have ramps, I have difficulty with some ramps and steps because I use crutches, why is it that if you look for information about disabled things, it assumes you have a wheelchair?

| |  because most that are disabled do have a wheelchair. i walk with a quad cane because of my knees, so i know what you mean in that respect. i do use a ramp because i cannot do stairs. can you walk up stairs with your crutches?

| |  Hi! I think the people are thinking that even if you have crutches that it would be easier for a person to go up a ramp, then stairs or steps. Not all ramps are made the same and i can see where it could be a problem for someone to use them with ease.

I think mainly because they are stereotyping - they "many ppl" have the idea of disabled as "wheelchair" when it should be changed to special needs instead of disabled. I mean disable to do what??! Special need means that you need something that is not usually provided or available.

| |  If you're wanting to find out if the entrance to a building is at ground level, you could always take a peek via street view using Google Maps/Earth.
