I smelled it |
|
Do you remember how things in your past smelled? Studies show that smells are one of the most lasting triggers to memories. I remember the smell of the public swimming pool early in the morning when we were in swim classes. Of course the smell of special food and cloths after being dried outside in the sun. What are some of your most memorable smells?

The smell of my baby cologne which i wore most of the time at school. The smell of banana cue at the back of the school campus, where i and my friends had a snack during break time. Happy myloting.

savypat (7726) | 5 months ago | How about the smell of the schoolroom and the halls. Or even the gym. Thanks.

rdadey (331) | 5 months ago | I remember when we all would get new books passed out to us in school, everyone would open them up and take a lot smell. Even the smell of the school on the first day was very distinct. The smell of sandwiches when you opened your plastic Peanuts lunchbox. The smells of the gym were something else, the showers and more than 20 different deodorants.

2. lelin1123 (4436) | 5 months ago | I remember the smell of the lunch room in grammar school. I really never was comfortable with that smell. I remember the smell of my mom and her perfume that was nice. One horrible smell that I don't ever want to smell again is that of a dead body. I remember it was around July 4 and some guy was killed while fireworks were going off. We didn't know that a man had been killed and lying in a lot across the street from our house. I also remember the smell of the house when we were having a cookout. It was the smell of fresh cucumbers, carrots and onion and the smell of cooked pasta.

3. rdadey (331) | 5 months ago | Oh yeah...smells of some foods, especially baked stuff. One big comes one every year at Xmas when we put up a real tree. In the morning when I awake and with my eyes closed the smell of the tree brings me right back to my childhood. Too bad we can't go back to relive those memories for a day or two, alas..they will remain memories.

4. TheModfather (292) | 5 months ago | when i was very young, from age two to four, i lived in quite a remote part of Scotland, the village had just one shop and it only opened during week days, monday to friday.
on other days a mobile shop used to visit the villiage, it called at every street and it sold groceries. it had a strong smell of freshly baked bread and cakes. whenever i smell freshly baked bread and cakes it takes me back to when i was just a young boy living in that little village, miles from the nearest town.

savypat (7726) | 5 months ago | Some people smell of the diet they eat and they are so use to it they no longer smell it on themselves. Plus the people they live and eat with also smell the same. Garlic is one of those things that when eaten by many people leaves a smell. this discussion was just about smells good or bad. Thanks

6. happy6162 (2382) | 5 months ago | I remember the smell of the bread my mom would bake. there is nothing like the smell of fresh bread baking in the oven. us kids could not wait for it to be done but then we would have to wait longer for it to cool so we would not burn ourselves and then it could be cut. boy it tasted heavenly.

7. silvercoin (479) | 5 months ago | Interesting question. My favorite smells from my childhood and teen years are the smell of jasmine bush that grew in my grandmother's back yard and the smell of blackboard chalk which I tried to eat more than once. The most memorable smell is the smell of Christmas:the smell of frost, snow,Christmas tree, apples, warm cake. That's amazing.Sometimes a smell of tobacco mixed with good perfume draws my attention.I reminds me of someone who visited our house,an uncle, maybe neighbor.I still like this mix.

8. Opal26 (9934) | 5 months ago | Hey pat! I have lots of different smells that I remember! I also remember the smell of the swimming pool when I was in camp! I loved that chlorine smell! Even though we had to go into the pool kind of early in the morning for swim class and the pool was still cold! There are so many things that I smell that can trigger a memory all of a sudden! I still love the smell of clean laundry! I can't really think of the smells that trigger things for me right now. I kind of take them as the come!

10. jessi0887 (2507) | 5 months ago | Often times I smell something that smells familier. The thing is I can never remember where that smell came from. One time though I smelled something and remembered that smell is what my old friends house use to smell like. I just can't ever remember smells untill I smell them again sometimes years later. I do believe those studies therefore.
