Do you read the book first then watch the movie or the other way around? |
|
I prefer to read the book first then watch the movie because if I see the movie first then I am seeing someone elses view of how the characters look and what the image in there head is, but if I read the book first I can invision what the people would look like and the setting instead of having to rely on someone else description. So which do you like to do, read the book first or see the movie first? Share your opinion.

1. dodo19 (4147) | 5 months ago | Like you, I prefer to read the book and then watch the movie. It's just something that I've done for quite a while. However, sometimes, it does happen that I don't get the chance of reading the book before I see the movie, but it's not such a big deal if this happens. It's just that I prefer reading the book first.

2. savypat (7588) | 5 months ago | I have never seen a movie and than read the book. Only once have I read the book and seen the movie, it was a great disappointment. So I just don't mix the two.

lala501 (786) | 5 months ago | I usually only mix the two if I read the book first then watch the movie. Never the other way around. I like seeing good books turn into movies. It shows how good the book really is.

4. snowy22315 (8100) | 5 months ago | I dont always see the movie and read the book. usually it is one or the other. Seldom do I do both. I think that I will often read the book and the movie is usually easier to watch so often I will just watch the movie and forget about the book. it is something that I am really interested in doing. book and movie but dont get around to both.

stephwrites (248) | 5 months ago | I'm with snowy! I don't lke to read books that are made into movies or go to a movie that was frst a book. They are always different and I end up disappointed. When you imagine what happened one way and then see it another, it's depressing because you have an expectation of what will happen and get let down when it doesn't.

5. lrglara (1013) | 5 months ago | i like reading the book first then watch the movie or not at all. I just get disappointed when the highlights in the book were not in the movie... eg. the da vinci code. I end up hating the movie. so i try not to watch the movie instead and settle to reading...
if for instance, i watched the movie first and then read the book, i still end up getting disappointed with the movie...:(

lala501 (786) | 5 months ago | Yes I have heard that was a really good movie though, but maybe those people have not read the book, so they are blind to see that some really good parts are missing. I have never read or seen the movie of the Da Vinci Code.

6. The_Lamb_Lies_Down (2595) | 5 months ago | I'm not real big on watching movies, but I read all the time. I have thought that most times, when I see the big-screen adaptation of a novel I have previously read, that most times the movie doesn't have quite the same impact as the book, especially when it is something along the lines of a Stephen King novel. The eye of the imagination can see more realistically than the eye of the camera, in my opinion.

lala501 (786) | 5 months ago | I like that saying, "the eye of the imagination can see moe realistically than the eye of the camera." Very nice. Sadly I have never read a Stephen King book, but I have seen a lot of his movies. His movies seem to be good, so if you say that the books are even better then I think I should head out to my local library and get one right now.

7. TheModfather (292) | 5 months ago | i only reab the book if it's a biography and i always watch the film after reading the book.
when i read i like to imagine how things are, what places, characters etc look like and how people sound.
i imagine if i watched the film first then my enjoyment of the book would be spoiled and i'd be less determined to finish it as i would know the ending.

|
lala501 (786) | 5 months ago | Yes I always watch the movie after reading the book too. I would think that everybody who saw the movie first wouldn't want to actually read the whole story after they saw it. But I have read a book before that the ending was nothing like what I saw at the movies.
| |
|
|
TheModfather (292) | 5 months ago | i recently read an autobiography before i watched the film version. i was disappointed with the film, it lacked a lot of content and i only understood the story fully because i'd read the book. people who hadn't read the book would certainly have been confused by some parts of the film.

8. AmbiePam (15207) | 5 months ago | I'm really not sure if I've read a lot of books that have turned into movies, or seen movies that originated as a book. The one example I do have is Anne of Green Gables. I saw the movie first, and I loved it. A few years later someone gave me the books as a gift. I read them, and loved them. But I found I enjoyed them both equally, and was glad I had seen the movie first. It made me want to read the books.

9. macdingolinger (1180) | 5 months ago | I prefer to read the book first. Actually, if I see the movie first, I probably will not ever read the book. I can't think of a book I've read after a movie, but I am thinking of two or three that I have read the book then watched the movie. If you watch the movie first it spoils the fun of the imagination!!

lala501 (786) | 5 months ago | Yes I agree that if you see the movie first then it spoils the fun of the imagination. I can only think of 2 movies that I have seen that I have not read the book. 1. Twilight which I really didn't want to see or read in the first place, but my friends were nagging me to see it so I finally did. It was actually a pretty good movie in my opinion, but I don't think I will ever read the book. And 2. all the Harry Potter movies. There books are way to long in my opinion, and I think I would just get confused if I tried to read them.

10. ElicBxn (15057) | 5 months ago | I kinda prefer to read the book first, but some times it just doesn't work out that way. I first discovered Sherlock Holmes thru a Basil Rathbone movie, but Holmes never looked like Rathbone to me. He always looked like William Gillette more to me... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Gillette
