Who would you prefer to appoint as your assistant?

A dumb person who has to be guided all through, who does some irreversible mess in your life OR a smart person who is smart enough to do all the stuffs but sometimes way too smart, knowing no ends of himself.

Hi Mimpi! Given the choice, I would not prefer to appoint any of the two categories of Assistants mentioned in your discussions. I believe that whatever I myself can do and how better I can it myself cannot be done by any other one. S/he just cannot think and act, what goes on my mind. Even if I give him/her instructions, s/he may take it on face value, not knowing its import and seriousness, therefore, I would like to be 'master' of myself. It is said that - "if one wants to execute a task in the best possible manner, s/he should do it himself/herself, any other person cannot do it the way one would do". Have a great evening!

I would prefer the smart person. The dumb person i would have to guide all the way through making me wonder all the while as to whether I should be doing the same by myself or not. I in fact may be spending a whole lot of time and energy in ensuring that things get done and will always have the thoguht about it not getting done right. Yes the risk of being oversmart is there, but I guess I should be smart enough for his smartness.

I know you can outsmart him but isn't it distressing to deal with an oversmart person! But, I agree, a smart person, if you can deal with his offshoots as in over smartness, is always a better idea.

An oversmart person and he's banging my head against the wall. A dumb person and i'm banging my head against the wall. Either way it's....

That's indeed a difficult situation. But I know you can live in the middle of it all.

I hope to keep assistants only for my household work mimpi dear and so i want only a dumb one because I will see to it that she does not do any irreversible damage to my prized possessions.I just cannot handle smart ones and if someone thinks too much of herself I will chuck her out. This has been my biggest problem here becasue here the women are all terrible and with my poor hindi they run roughshod over me.

For domestic help dumb is good. The smarter ones kind of outsmart us and irritates the hell of us! So, you are right! Hope you are fine now. Take care.

The smart person, even with all the attendant risks. Why? Because a stupid enemy is much more deadly than a smart one and a stupid friend is often more deadly than an enemy. You can't win with stupid. But there is a big difference between stupid and unskilled. I would not mind guiding someone who is teachable. In fact, that often works out best.

I would choose the smart person to be my assistant. At least, I would be certain that the person knows to handle most situations well. It would leave me enough time to focus on other things and not waste my time on trivial things. The risk of this assistant being way too smart? Well I am sure I can handle that. Not to mention, may be he/she can come up with some really good ideas to give my work a boost.

HI Mimpi, Difficult question... I think I'll go for the smart one. I want the person who works under me to have that "I can" attitude and if he/she's not smart enough I'll be the one who'll go crazy LOL. Of course I'll set the rules early on so that he/she knows the limits of what she's allowed to do, and won't step on my toes and get me side swept in the process. It is also good to have really smart people working for you so that when it's time for you go on vacation for long period or even when you finally step down, it will be easy to leave because there is someone ready to take on the responsibility.

I agree. I think that's very smart of you as well. Only if I could tolerate the attitude of know-it-all for once and all.

If it came to a point in my life where I would need an assistant for something I would prefer one that I could work with. One that could offer ideas and suggestions while working together to build the Business into what it is supposed to be. Someone who is Dumb or lazy, or unable to perform the tasks needed would not work as then you'd only be wasting a lot of time and money for sure.

Not an easy choice actually! I would go with the smart person and then do my best to ensure they knew their place and didn't overstep their role to the point of undermining me too often. I've worked with people that know no ends of themselves on many occasions and am even working with people like that now, so it's not too much of a challenge to keep them in check I don't think. A "dumb" person would cause me too many headaches and I have enough on my plate as it is without having to constantly worry about what they're doing and if they're doing it right. At least a smart person allows you to rest easy knowing that whatever tasks you give them are going to be done right!

Hi mimpi, If I appoint a smart person, I am afraid, I will become lazy. At the same time it is difficult to handle a dump person too. I may get irritated if she/he mess up the things so it is better to do my work myself.

It’s a hard one mimpi. I don’t like the idea of some dumb person making a mess of everything but the thought of dealing with a smart a**e drives me crazy! I would have to go with the dumb one and keep an eye out for mess ups, chances are his or her heart will be in the right place!

hahaha...that's my case exactly. Going for the dumb fella would drive you crazy as well but in a different way.

Hi mimpi! I think I'll take the dumb person. I can teach them what I need them to know.

Hi Mim. Is there a third choice? Something in the middle, perhaps, between the dumb person and the know-it-all? If so, I go with that choice lol. Karen
