deal breakers?

Anyone who is overly jealous is a deal breaker. Anyone who is overly clingy is a deal breaker. I need my space and that doesn't mean I am cheating on you. But petty things? I once dated a guy who wore jean shorts. Total deal breaker and to make it worse, he wore those jean shorts with ugly man-sandals with socks! I didn't know it until the weather got warmer. lol.

I smoke, so the first isn't an issue. I am Catholic and my partner is an Atheist, no problem there except when he says there's no God - I don't shove my religion in his face so he shouldn't do it with his beliefs either. I don't know if I could give up my cats for anyone though! I think the only real issue if me and my partner split and I was looking for a new relationship would be; love me, love my kids. If they couldn't love my kids as their own, and accept that they are always going to be the most important people in my life, I wouldn't be interested.

1)Cigarette smoking-like kissing an ashtray....just sayin...besides the smoke closes me up, badly. AND I think the health issue, that goes with it, would really really really upset me constantly. I don't mind the occassional pipe or cigar, the smell is totally different too.

2)Prejudice-severe prejudice as in whhite supremacy crapola. I guess everyone has SOME prejudice...but you know what I mean.........

3)Judgemental, condescending attitude.

4)Thinks he's God's gift to women, hence I usually am totally unattracted to "pretty boys". LOL!

5)And my new one, someone who can't understand empathy, an affectionate woman, or is emotionally detached.

I guess that's pretty much it for the most part.

Well at my age the list of things they have to be is alot different then when I was younger! My deal breaker would be someone who was not gainfully employed...and I can't stand someone who is conceited. If those are deal breakers then that would be my main two....as for personal habits...I shower every morning...however I know some who think that is not necessary....NOT! That would be a deal breaker for sure.

Sorry Dawn, but i'm not in the market.lol. i gave up on that a long time ago but good luck to people who still haven't wised up.

I can't say I have a concrete list, but chances are I won't get along with someone who isn't a lot like me. The person has to tolerate cats, because I wouldn't get rid of mine ever. They have to accept the fact that I'll never own a dog under any circumstances. Obviously they'd have to accept my kids. If we didn't see eye to eye on things that are important to me, then I certainly wouldn't continue the relationship. I guess it would all depend on how important that topic was whether I could see past that "flaw" in him or not.

I'd prolly have to pass on the girl with the handlebar mustache and the size 16 shoes.

This kind of matches up with the discussion about bad traits emerging after six months.I was wild about my first hubby before he ever even noticed me. I would not have let anything be a deal breaker with him. That is okay, I was young, he was young, we lived and learned, and then he made me a widow. Comes to the second marriage, lots of deal breakers: Smoking, drinking, not having any friends, being judgmental or disrespectful would all have been deal breakers, but they were not there with this guy. Love him bunches. I did dismiss more than one on some of these issues.

Well, I have been known for 'breaking deals' over small stuff. I'm a runner...afraid of comittment. lol Here are some things I look for before getting serious.

If he lies to me and I catch him.
If I find out he cheated in a previous relationship.
If he won't work...or expects me to take care of him in other ways, like laundry, cooking, picking up after him.
If he is mean to kids or animals.
If he is mean to his mom or dad or tells me he hates his ex.
If he has no desire to learn something new.
If he does not take care of his personal hygeine.
If he is not spiritually minded. Not necessarily has to believe exactly like I do, but has to believe in something bigger than himself.
If he is pushy and rude.
If he is selfish.
If he doesn't put me at least third on his list of favorite pass times. lol
If he drinks to much or has any addiction other than cigarettes.

If he breaks any promises without a real good explanation.

Should I go on? Now you know why I am single. Not for lack of offers...but by choice. I learned a long time ago I wasn't perfect...and I don't expect anyone else to be perfect...but each one of these things is an indication of a deeper problem...and men my age should have figured this stuff out a long time ago.
