self fulfilling prophecy

just read a discussion that triggered my thoughts, can you make your own bad luck through fearing a certain month will bring on troubles? I know that studies have proved too much stress can cause heart problems and ultimately lead to a heart attack. Do you cause or can you cause self fulfilling prophecies? Should you not seek medical help if you are stressed enough to think a certain month will necessarily bring you bad luck or bad health?

I don't believe in such kind of false thought or prophecy. Our fate lies in God's hand. Fear in people seems to be increasing by the day. Do we need to live in fear? When our heart is clean and our attitude is one of helping others in need, there will always be the protecting hand to safeguard us from any evil. We should have firm faith in this and at the same time, knowing what the world is like to-day, should take precautions in whatever we do. By treating life as a challenge, fear will be replaced by confidence.

Great attitude toward life, and it is too bad that more people cannot embrace that faith and confidence.

hi zandi indeed well said. I also believe inGod and I'
think we a lot of times make our own stresses as we
forget to let go and let God so to speak.and we ,I mean
some of us get so selfish,we tend not to want to get'involved if we see somebody doing something really wrong or hurting someone.I
got involved one day on the bus when two passengers, one a skinny'oldermanland the other a much younger husky man. It'turns out the two were bus drivers on their days off.they got into a'quarrel over which bus line was the bus.The older man really didnt want to'get into it but the younger heavy man came right at him with fists doubled and nobody on that packed bus including the driver stopped him.so I moved forward and put myself between them, and said to the young punk
so you want to hit me, an elderly woman eh'?He hauled off and hit'my shoulder while the bus driver stopped the bus and had summoned the police.a young police officer,a woman had her baton out and yelled. you hit that old lady again and I will coldcock you. She and another older police officer then handcuffed and led the cocky younger man off the bus.they asked me if I needed the paramedics and of course I said no I am fine. just get me a seat. mylegs are shaking so they made another young lout get up and let me havehis seat.he scowled at me.

You can bring bad luck on yourself by focusing on it. You would have to have a very smart and understanding physician to give you medical help. Possibly it would be better to seek mental health help or therapy, and get a complete physical as well to reassure yourself. I think my stubborn belief that I am healthy contributes to that condition in my life.

Hi gardengerty yes you can sure bring bad luck by focussing on'it as really we make our own because we get all shook up and do dumb
things which bring consequences which canreally mess us up.It is
always good to seek mental help when you areoverwhelmed with life'and feel like you cannot cope. but I do believe in God and in prayers too.My owndoctor said to me you can worry yourself into a heart attack.so I try to keep unstressed.

I know very negative people who are surrounded by good fortune, so to me this is not quite true. If we surround ourselves with negative thoughts then our lives will be miserable. No-one can make us think anything, that choice is ours. Being happy or sad is our choice 9unless there is some underlying medical reason ...like clinical depression). It helps to physically make a list of all the things making us unhappy and all the things we can be grateful for. When you look at it the happy part has much more value than the unhappy part. Focus on the good not the bad.

hi mstickle you are right its up to us to make ourselves'happy or to think ourselves unhappy.Abe lincoln said man is about as
happy as he thinks himself to be.so lets all make ourselves'
more healthy by thinking we are happy and bybeing positive.
it costs nothing and can help us stay healthy.dwell on the
good and your outlook will be sunny.

Is this for me???? Does this refer to my discussion? I did not even realize the month of August had started. It just struck me yesterday... and then I started the discussion....I do not believe at all in bad luck....it is just a string of coincidences.....but this is about the 8th or 9th time that I have been seriously ill or hospitalized in the month of August. It cannot even be the onset of monsoons because we have not had any rains here this year. Till the 2nd of august I did not even think of this month bringing troubles even though I was going to the doctor. I realized is just yesterday. So it just cannot be the stress caused because of me thinking that this month will be bringing me bad luck.

hi mayka your discussion triggered mine.but like you say'this is olikely just a string of coincidences really. Oddly I fell in
august three years ago And had to havemy whole shoulder joint'replaced with an artificl joint. then I hAd an attack of bleeding diverticuliisin august of the next year but last summer I came down not'with diverticulitis but shingles but that was inMAy.No guess'August is not An unlucky month for me either. I know that
studies have proved that worry does cause stress which can make
'us ill.

This string of coincidences has continued till this day....my brother has had a massive attack and is in hospital and has to undergo a bypass in a day or two. My brother in law has had a serious accident and will be undergoing an operation next week. My mother has got a swelling in her leg and is not able to walk. So just now my sister and me and rushing from one doctor to the other with the three patients being treated in three different parts of the city. This month is really bad for me. I am not able to take leave and everyday after office I am visiting either the hospital or taking my mother to the doctor. That is giving me just 4-5 hours of sleep everyday and making me sick.

hi mayka124 you are really having a string of problems
wtih ill loved ones. we used to say when I worked in
the hospital that bad things occur in threes. So maybe
now things will begin to turn around to the good for
you instead. But I do think its just coincidence myself.

Hi Hatley,
I do believe if we think negativly at certain times about eg: months, a certain day or even think that we are ill then it affects us and also the month or day-whatever it maybe will actually turn out the way we thought it wouls. Whereas if by positive thinking you do not think like that then the less you are affected and certain days, months etc will never be 'bad'. So yes I really do think that our way of thinking affects everything we do, say or think. There is a lot to be said for thinking Positivly rather than Negativly...LoLo

hi little owl I know thinking negatively can and does affect'your health.and that being positive makes you more resistant to a lot'of ills and diseases.so positive thinking will really help allof'uys. It keeps us in a good mood, and in a good mood we are more likely to do the things that keep us healthy.

I believe it whole heartedly. I am a firm believer in Karma too. EVERYTHING you do has a direct impact on the energy surrounding you. The more you think negative the more negative energy surrounds you, thus affecting everything you do. The power of positive thinking is insanely healthy and powerful.
Now stress is an inveatble fact of life. No matter what you do, you will always be faced with stress in different forms. There are even 'good' forms of stress that keeps you healthy and sharp. But anything NOT in moderation can bad on both your mental state and physical health. Now going to the doctor because you *think* you may have a bad month, is not really necessary. Going to you best friend or councilor would be a good idea. Our minds are directly correlated with our bodies, and having a good support network of friends, families and councilor can keep our minds calm and well stop those heart attacks.

Like zandi said I think we forget that we can rely'on'
god to watchover us and we try to do it all ourselves.
As a former nurses aid I do believe in seeking medical'jh
help for stress and anxiety. also to think positively will'block out the negative thoughts and keep you stress free.
