In the past I have travelled via car & train 1 - 2 hours travel each way...when I drove, most of this time was spent sitting in a traffic jam but when on the train, this is just how long it took for me to get to work & then walking to & from the train station too. i hate the travelling but if it means money then, yeah, I would do it. I know it's tiring but when I travelled on the train, it was good because I was able to catch up on reading my books.

Traffic jams are a nightmare especially when it rains. No reading for me on the train, get plenty of that at work. I do listen to music though which makes the time go by fast. I am a big fan of books on tape

Hi sergeantrom, when I worked in a city in England the worst part of my day was the commute. It was only actually about eight miles away but it could take nearly an hour somedays. I couldn't drive in as the traffic on the motorway would be at a practical stanstill in the morning with everyone stuck in their cars and then no cheap parking at the other end. So it was the train with the endless delays and being packed in like sardines. Then all over again on the way back. We just do it and dream of the day we can stop. I've stopped now and thank goodness for no more commuting.

My husband said the same thing about Germany when he lived there. One hour commute is nothing to him but for me, its a nightmare. I always worked to work all my life. I hate driving especially in traffic. Commuting feels like another job doesnt it? Did the train thing too, even worse.
Glad you no longer have to commute.

I've done the long commute thing before, and it really does suck to lose all that time (not to mention all the costs of traveling: gas, vehicle repair, etc). I wouldn't advise you to walk away from a job in this economy but when things improve I think you should look for something closer to home.

Great advice! I told my manager that same thing. Who is going to pay for my car repairs when it starts breaking down from all the miles. And who is going to pay for my therapy from the road rage?

In this day I would definitely keep the job as jobs are hard to come by. I used to travel close to 2 hours to work back about 15 years ago. I had a GREAT job, great pay and couldn't resist. I was able to take a train however, so I wasn't actually "behind the wheel" for that long. I just recently went back to work, that is why I haven't been on mylot that often. Actually it is about 6:30 a.m. right now, and I will have to go to work in about 10 minutes....so I have limited time as well.
Have a super day!!!

Is that 2 hours one way???? That must have been some job. If the train went to my job, I would not mind so much. You have a great day too!!!

I wouldn't do that long commute. But if I really needed to keep that job, I would do the commute. In this economy you pretty much have to keep any job you have because it is extremely hard to find a new one.
Sorry to hear about you long drive to and from work everyday!

Exactly! No jobs out there and been on this one for 10 years and dont want to lose my very good benefits. I just need to hit the lottery and end this madness.
