Ever notice the big letter surrounded by circles to the left of George

Washington (to us as we face the bill)? That's the Federal Reserve that goes with that bill. With really, really good eyes, you don't need a magnifying glass and then there are my eyes. At any rate, the bill I have, has a B on it with Federal Reserve of New York, New York. Do you have an American Dollar Bill? If you do, what letter does it have on it and what Federal Reserve does it have written on it? So far, I've found out what SOME of the letters available on one dollar bills mean (A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, K, and L so far), but not all of the letters. So if you have a dollar bill:
What letter and what Federal Reserve place does it say? Have you ever studied your dollar? Have you ever studied any part of any paper money? Do you know some things about paper money that people might find fun or interesting? Could what you know help you to detect a counterfeit? I know that the B (first letter from the reserve) should be the first letter before the number series to the right of the George. So if I see some other letter there, the person isn't a very good forger, didn't even study that much. But seldom does anyone forge dollars. Up here, it's usually $20 and $100s. How about where you are, do you know what fake denominations usually turn up?

I didn't pay any attention to the letter left in the circle until I read this discussion. It's quite interesting. I have one with a "K" on it and at the bottom of the circle it shows Dallas, Texas. I have so many one dollar bills right now in the house that it's time to take all of them to the bank and get rid of them. I wouldn't have a clue how to look for a counterfeit bill unless it was made with a funny feeling recycled paper. The newer bills I have all have an "H" on them are St. Louis, Mo. I also notice 4 numbers positioned in 4 different places on the bill. The H's are all number 8. Also I have a "J" here which is Kansas City, Mo. Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I could get lost here looking at the bill for awhile. The fake demonations that turned up in our area were twenty dollar bills. It's been awhile since they surfaced.

Thank you very, very much! J is a new one for me. I haven't gotten a bill with a J on it. I've gotten A through H as well as K and L. Since I live in NY, a CA one is a long distance for a bill to travel. Thanks for respondind and take care.

No, it's against Where's George rules to artificially send money all over and enter it as natural money flow. Some day, I'll get a J. I just need to know what is out there and what the letters mean so I can enter them quickly and entice people with how far they are from where they started already. That way maybe they'll enter. After all, if you find a bill and find out it was entered yesterday and only went 10 miles, then you may get discouraged. But if you find out how far it went from the federal reserve, like halfway across the country, then 10 miles, that might encourage you to keep inputting bills that you find with Where's George? on them. So it's just a little something extra that I do to encourage people to keep the fun going. So I started a chart. Every time I see the letter, I look on the chart instead of having to hunt for a magnifying glass. Thanks and take care!
