How long do you hold off from purchasing a new pair of prescription eye glasses?

I just recently had to buy a pair of prescription eye glasses in July 2009, but the last time I brought a pair was in 2002. My reason is because I only need to wear them at night while driving. I could see just fine in them but they were outdated and my family always talked about them but never offer to get me a new pair. (Just Keep Your Eyes On The Road). I like my new pair of eyes and I'm now in "Fashion". Hehe :0

hi yparson hatley here. I think i outdid you, I last bought glasses in 1999 and here its 2009,and I really do need glasses. I am nearsighted and I see the print seems to be smaller,or no wait a minute maybe it is my glasses so am off to see my doctor for the referral to an eye doctor and all that hassle it will take.think that why I have been putting it off. oh well one must see.

Hello, yparson! I only replace them if my prescription changes. It's too difficult to come up with several hundred dollars unless I really have to. Actually, I prefer contacts, so I don't wear my glasses very often at all.

i usually get a new pair of prescription eyeglasses when i need to get my eyes checked, and it is usually about every 10 years. and my eyes slightly changes, not even a big change.

I waited a long time probably about 5 or 6 years. I just brought two pairs in April. I only need them for distance while driving, at theater or watching TV. I thought the doctor was going to say my prescription changed alot but it didn't. He said it changed very slightly nothing to worry about. Made me happy.

I buy new glasses when my prescription stops working for me, when my eyes change. When things aren't crystal clear when I'm wearing my glasses, then it's definitely time to get new ones. I mean, your eyes and your prescription changes over time. My eyesight actually improved the last time I got new glasses from the pair I had before, which was a nice surprise. But anyway, that's how I know it's time to get a new pair.
