Why is this song banned?

A friends sent me this link because he knows how much I love America and was shocked to find out it has been banned. What do you think? I can not even listed to a song on the radio without the powers that be saying I cannot listen to it because it is "politically incorrect" Is love of God and your country now forbidden?
The song you are about to listen to is from a Las Vegas Diamond Rio concert. They received an immediate resounding standing ovation, and continue to do so every time they perform it! Everyone who loves America should be thrilled to hear this song! Although Diamond Rio has never before done a statement song, they felt compelled to record "In God We Still Trust." But guess what? Sadly, major radio stations wouldn't play it because it was considered "politically incorrect". Consequently, the song was never released to the public. So America, see what you think. If this offering speaks to your heart and you feel to share it with friends and loved ones, please do.

I am glad it was banned!
I am a big fan of Diamond Rio but they crossed the line with that one
not ALL Americans are freaking Christian!
they make it sound like anyone who is not Christian is not a true American and that is a bunch of bullshyt!
us "non belieivers" love our country just as much as the freaking Christian ones

You said "they make it sound like anyone who is not Christian is not a true American" I did not get that message at all from the song that is why I was genuinely surprised at it being banned from the airwaves. I think it denies my freedom of choice. I am not a listener of Christian music radio channels but that is my choice. I most likely would never have heard this song if a friend had not sent it to me but I still do not think my choice of music which I listen to in the privacy of my own home should be censored by the government.
I did not intend to piss you off but you got pissed off for a different reason than I did. The government is already trying to infringe on my life with it's cruddy health care at least let me listen to my choice of music while they are deciding how much health care I should get.

wonttakelong, George Harrison released a song many years ago called "My Sweet Lord" which contained lyrics with chants of "hare krishna" etc. It was a song with a specific religious message and Harrison was well-known to be a follower of eastern buddhism. Should all non-buddhists have demanded it was banned from the airwaves? Of course not. BTW, no one demanded it removed but he did get sued for plagiarism over it.
The truth is that freedom of speech means all speech, even that you disagree with and if the lyrics offend you, turn the station, make your opinion known, exercise your own freedoms and rights. That is the correct way to respond. The incorrect way to respond would be to abridge the rights of free speech to anyone you disagree with.

I have to kind of agree with wonttakelong. Yes, this country was founded by Christians, but this is far from a Christian country anymore when you have such a mixture of religions here now and one has to respect those people whose religion isn't Christian nor believe in "God" per se
If radio stations that are predominantly Christian oriented or maybe even country/western type fine they can play the song there but not on a mainstream radio station

In my comment to wonttakelong I gave my explanation of what I felt. I do not listen to Christian music stations and I agree with you that it should be aired there and not just banned from the airwaves. America has always been a melting pot of different religions and sects. It allows all people to worship their religion of choice and the reason I am angry is that I am not allowed my freedom of choice regarding what music/songs I can listen to.

I wouldnt want to hear it on the country station!
not all country music fans are Christians
they can play it all day long on the Christian music channel if they want
I think its a safe bet that everyone that listens to that channel is Christian and will appreciate the song
but I sure as hell dont appreciate the implications made in that song

wonttakelong~ are you one of those people that believe the pledge of alligience should be taken out of schools? or that in god we trust should be taken off the money too? On 9/11 were you one of the people that didnt pray for the lost ones? if you did pray who did you pray too? I believe that most people in our world today ARENT christians. when this country was founded, it was founded on christianity and now christians are the minority. The main reason I believe that the radio stations didnt play it, is not becuase it says in god we still trust, but becuase it criticizes the government and they cant handle that. Take the word god out of the song and listen to the rest of it........then maybe youll get what the message was.

I listened to the Rio Diamond song. I much prefer Lee Greenwood's "Proud To Be An American." Lee doesn't question anyone's faith or lack thereof. He doesn't talk about how America is going to the dogs. He simply says I love America and I will stand with you to defend her. He says "If I lost everything I owned today, I know that as long as our American flag is standing, I am still free and that is what counts." As an American, how can you argue with that? You gotta stand with him. As free Americans, we can do anything. I don't care who you are or what your other beliefs are. We may disagree on the particular war, but for sure we will stand with our military men. That is a song I can get behind.
Whoever told you "Still In God We Trust" was banned from the airways had their facts all wrong. Please see the following link: http://www.snopes.com/politics/business/diamondrio.asp. Snopes is very good at ferreting out the hoaxes and separating the facts from the fiction. In summary, "In God we still trust" (1) was never released as a single (a must for it to receive radio air time) and (2) did not receive substantial backing from Daywind (the company that released it). By the time it was released, it had to compete with Toby Keith's "Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue", Carrie Underwood's "Jesus Take the Wheel" and a few other popular, tunes in high demand by the fickle public.
As you are a fan of Rio Diamond, you may want to purchase their "Greatest Hits Volume 2" with "Still In God We Trust", "Redneck Love Gone Bad" and several other fine tunes I'm sure you will love. I'm just know you want to do the right thing and get a "legal" copy of your favorite "Still In God We Trust" song so you can burn a CD or play it on your Ipod.

I don't know why this song was ban from the radio it's a beautiful song but could it be that so many think that it's to much about god.....We still have in god we trust on our money but guess christians don't have any rights any more...But if you have listened to some of the songs with the f word in every other line they will play them every day....

I got this song in an e-mail about this matter a year or so ago. I don't know why it was never released or how it came to be banned, but it's a shame. The song is wonderful. It is hard for me to believe radio stations in the Bible Belt wouldn't even play it. Maybe since all stations wouldn't take it, they decided it was alll or nothing. I think it would be a hit in my state.

The intolerance is so tangible. I especially like the comment that 'allows' this song to be played on a Christian station. Gee, thanks. What else will they let us do, or say. If a song is gonna be banned, the ban should be coming from the FCC or somewhere similar (I wouldn't agree with it or them, btw). But for sissy radio station owners to just bow down to the Politically Correct Bullies is just absurd. People should protest with their ears and tuner fingers.
Personally, I don't like country music and didn't care for the song. But I'm all for people expressing themselves. The idea of this song being 'banned' for what it is saying disgusts me.
