Always remember this one sobering fact...
Whatever legislation, authority and power you work to grant politicians you agree with, you are also granting that same legislation, authority and power to the next person to take their place... even if you don't agree with them.
Think of your worst case scenario for the outcome of the 2010 and 2012 elections. Whatever bill or issue you want passed, imagine the names of those you strongly oppose using them.
That is the first question we should each ask ourselves before throwing our support based on a person or a party.

he he, I'll bet republican voters are KICKING themselves for the patriot act and wire tapping now aren't they? Heck, I'm kicking myself enough just for once having been a republican years ago.
Anyway, Ted, you make a REALLY good point here. I hope people will at least read this and consider it, at least to themselves.

Actually, I have used the Patriot Act as an example of why we shouldn't rush into anything.. ever!
There are a lot of legitimate provisions in it, but much of it has already been struck down.

I think this is a good reminder. A good bill is a good bill regardless of who is implementing it. If it is not going to be good under someone else, then it is not a good bill.

That is a very good point! But take for instance the bill to abolish term limits for the President (submitted in January I think), if you abolish this, there is a good chance Obama could be Dictator for Life. I am so glad that all those years ago George Washington said he would not be the King!
