Very true, even I spend a lot of time in front of computer which I know isn't good for health and eyes equally, even though I use anti clear glasses, which prevents the rays from computer from spoiling your eyes.
Still I am addicted and I can't resist. I read novels sometimes, but I am hooked to PC most of the day, so ultimately my PC is on for around 9-10 hours daily.
When I am not using it, it is in standby mode, I switch it off at the end of the day!

i have to say servers are built tough and they do their job pretty nicely... they are made to run at a stretch . . . occasional restarts are sometimes necessary

Of course. I restart it for the patches.

I even turned it off two months ago. I upgraded it from 4GB RAM to 8GB RAM:-)

It makes a lot of noise.
But It for example holds the music/movie libary of the entire family.

Don't worry about that.
We had a laptop running some stuff and that things was on non-stop for like 2 months.

Its still alive.

Really? I don't know that. My friends always advice me to turn off my laptop after a few hours. They said it it not good for our processor and it might damages our laptop. Thanks for that information.

wow that is a lot. 2 months. It sound unbelievable. My mom would never allow me to do that.

i have to say my laptop becomes slow and sluggish after nearly more 12 hours or so... but hey i definitely wouldn't recommend anyone to run a laptop for 2 months! although it's a different case with the desktop... that is a lot of time plus your battery will die soon and the heating too!

one has to turn off their laptop when not in use, twill have a better life

don't worry if you run your laptop for very long, the worst case can happen is that you can burn your graphics card and loose out on battery life!

Yeah ... it is the worrying things to face. To think about the cost of repairing a laptop would kick my head out.

Desktop is a different case. You can turn it on as long as you want it. The heating is only the problem with desktop. My friend always open their desktop cover to allowed the air flowed. They always turn it on for weeks and have no problem with it. But for laptop it is totally different matters.

i agree, even i don't want anything to happen to my lappy, i just don't want to pay for some problem i can avoid... why let the computer not have small breaks when we do...hehe
some of my friends what they do is open up the side of the cabinet to allow more free flow of air, and some put table fans facing the open compartment HAHAHA ... it is so funny to look at that LOL
but another thing is needed to be taken care of when opening the side of the cabinet, you must watch out for dust and moisture, you definitely can't let the moisture in, it has disastrous effect on the computer especially on the hard drive!
so watch out friend!

That was a machine at work (at a customer) and we just din't have another choice. The room where it was located was cooled well, so all fine.

No matter how i try with my laptop. (not my desktop) it shuts of after long hours of playing. It would be scorching hot. Hot that i cant even touch it. But it has a fan that i hear turn on every minute or two. Maybe the fan still cant blow enough air in it, do you think that is the problem? The battery now too is running down very quickly. I dont now why

if your battery is running low very fast and is heating too much then you should check that you are not blocking the vents in your computer in any way... your graphics card needs a lot of cooling and the hot air mostly comes from that section of your laptop... also do not run your laptop in high performance mode at all times

i guess it was the air conditioning which helped it but still i have to say it did barely survive and don't let that happen with your laptop again unless it is really required to do so, the laptop must have cursed you guys.

Sometimes I face the same problem too. It is hurt just to type something on it because the heat. I always on my laptop fan but still doesn't enough to keep it cool all the times.

It is different if we are in an air conditioning room. It is cooler and that would help the laptop to cooled too.

The battery would be weaker as times goes by. Its life line would be shorter. I always try to take out my battery if I can get connection to a plugin. It would help the battery last longer. It is correct? Anyone can help on this?

hmmm i see you are having battery issues, i would say to save your battery life use your laptop on the power supply as long as the battery is charging and then disconnect from the power source to let it run on battery, this way keep your battery charging and discharging, discharging the battery is very important, coz it happens that always running your laptop on the a/c power supply your battery doesn't really do any work and it's life goes down so keep it discharging as well... well if your battery is already dead your laptop can run without the battery on the main power supply, it has happened with my friend, he has no battery and runs it on mains...

I will have a good day. i have a laptop that is continuously running hot. hot where it would turn of automatically. The fan usually is on though. I dont know what is wrong.

laptops will get easily heated when they are kept on some surface that is soft and shapes up to close the vents in your laptop, for example on a bed or sofa, so better not keep it on such surfaces plus their is a lot of dust on those surfaces, the fans do run faster when your computer gets heated up and it is fine as long as you hear your fans running, but that shouldn't be the case all the time, you need to put your laptop on a hard and plane surface like a table... even better option is to elevate your laptop a little off the ground so as to let it breathe more freely, and if nothing is happening then you can always buy a laptop cooler to place it underneath your laptop . . . sometimes you should also clean your vents and wipe the dust, sometimes it happens that the dust particles accumulate on the sides of the vent and don't let the air flow easily... so take care

yeah many of my friends do that with their desktops, leave the cpu running and switch off the monitor, monitor eats quiet a lot of power supply... only thing is to see to it that your cpu doesn't get very heated.

yeah i have to agree leaving the computer on isn't much the case to worry about if you have a desktop...

hey i too have an AMD in my laptop, and have to say sometimes i also have heating issues but that doesn't mean the guys with Intel don't have problems...HEHE
