If you see somebody shoplifting, would you say something/report them? |
| |
| Couple months ago, I went shopping at a craft store, I was looking at the cosmetic stuff, I picked up the lipsticks that was on sales, it supposed to have 4 licpticks in it but I saw one of them was torn apart and 1 lipstick is gone... Couple days ago, I went shopping again, I saw something similar again... so it makes me wonder if people do do stealing in the store??? And I asked myself should I say something if I see people stealing stuff? Go straight and talk to the stealer? or report to the people in the store? What would you do? | | | | | |

| | I have not seen one,but i witness a mall guards drag a shoplifter and they varies from ages like a teenager, children, man and woman. All are caught in the actual stealing while others are caught by the alarm, and with security check up. The modus operandi, in cases of women wear heavy clothes to look like pregnant, wear doubles shirts and pants, then all the items is being inserted or at least in a dressing room she get many dress to try. But, the real truth she gonna wear it then overlap with her others clothes. Basically, I do not really like to meddle with other person business. Their are lot of survelance cameras around malls, and surely a shoplifter could easily be caught. I leave the responsibilities to the shopping mall security guard to do their works..Sometimes, some shoplifter being caught are all dramas that the shopping mall owner reenactment that a probable shoplifter changes her mind as somebody have been caught may drive the shoplifter plan to change her plans. | | | | | | |

| | I have seen couple times that police drag the shoplifters away too. I think people is stupid to do so... who will not know when you are stealing and the alarm goes off... | | | |

| | I would not approach the stealer as they may claim that i put the item in their possession or anything, I would ask to remain anonymous and report the stealer only If i am absolutely certain that the person is stealing. often we can be mistaken as I notice some people use the items that they are gonna purchase before they actually make payment, so just be sure! | | | | | | |

| | Hello mermaid, I haven't seen personally someone stealing or doing some shoplifting. But,in any case,i would probably report it.If,i am beside or near the person and it's a woman,i would ask why she has do that, maybe she had some reason for doing it.But,if it is a man,i would report so he will be caught.(which of course if it happens at the mall, the camera surely had caught him stealing). I wonder how it will be if,someone is pickpocketting, and you saw it.What will you gonna do? | | | | | | |

| | I think I will tell the person that being picked up the wallet and let him'her do whatever he/she decided to do, I don't think I will chase the person for him/her seeing I don't think it will be good to do so. | | | |

| | if the person shoplifting is poor, i will let him/her go. sorry, but i'm assuming she/he can't afford it. if the person looks like a goon, really dangerous-looking, i'd shout for the police. if the person shoplifting looks like a normal person, i'd report him/her to the store. but if the storeowner exhibits bad attitude. i will not report anything. | | | | | | |

| | I think I will report to the person that works at the store, telling directly to the shoplifter, you don't know what is going to happen. | | | |

| | i'd move away from them so no one would think i was with them if the person looked very dangerous i'd leave the store. if the person looked harmless i'd tell a worker they should go see what that person is doing | | | | | | |

| | I think it is a smart idea to move your steps away from the shoplifter and go tell somebody else that works at the store. | | | |

| | I would not say anything to the person doing the stealing, because you never know what they would do, that could be dangerous. I would say something to the person at the check out. Most stores now have cameras everywhere watching, but just in case they do not catch it. i would say something. | | | | | | |

| | Yea.. that's why I don't understand why people will do stealing while cameras are recording them. | | | |

| | Wow great question, humm I think if I actually saw someone stealing I go to them and remind them of what could happen if they were caught hopefully they will listen, to actually report to the store itself I am not sure, considering when you go into some of these stores people like to follow you and that pisses me off, so no I won't go to them, but I will tell the person it's not worth it, you should not do that. | | | | | | |

| | You are right but you must remember some people are stupid, sad but true, I would say something if I saw this, but that also depends on the individual if they look like they will hurt me, I will mind my business trust and believe that. | | | |

| | Yes! I think I would. I have to admit..I've been in the shoplifting position before, and I can definitely say with confidence that shoplifting becomes an addiction; an addiction to the high/thrill you get from being in such a dangerous situation. I shoplifted for about a year when I was 11 - and finally got caught when I was 12. In retrospect, I'm really happy I got caught - and prosecuted and whatnot because it was a reality check; a wake-up call, and I realized that there were consequences for my actions & at that point - I knew it had to stop. I think if you reported someone as shoplifting, you'd actually be doing them a favor considering how addictive shoplifting can be. And beyond that, you're doing the STORE or place of business a favor as well - because they obviously lose money off of stolen merchandise! I wouldn't talk to the theif; that seems unreasonable. I would talk to someone working at the store or a security guard (if the place has one) and let them know what you saw. The least they could do is keep tabs on the person in question. | | | | | | |

| | I'm glad that you got out of that, I have heard stealing could become an addiction. | | | |
