what type of vitamins should someone take to boost the immune system?  email this discussion to a friend?

Due to different types of viruses that we can get in our environment, I want to have a protection against it, and it's by increasing my immune system. As of now, I am using Vitamin C with Zinc in capsule form. I also tried Virgin Coconut Oil but the taste is so awful that's why I have to stop it. Can you suggest better vitamins or any food supplement?

maybe you just have to try fresh green and leafy vegetables, freshly squeezed fruit juice and see them monkeys? bananas' their supplement.good for snacktime and snacktime

If only I know how to cook different kinds of meal using vegetables then I will do it everyday. sigh! But I think Banana is good, it has potassium that is also good for the health, compare to apple based on scientific facts.

Hi levy, I am not a genius when it comes to this but as I have learned in some naturopathic books, our body needs all the right amount and right source of vitamins A to Z to make the body healthy, free from disease and to increase resistance. There are a lot of natural food supplements that contain lots of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. I believe it is not enough to take Vitamin C to be healthy. Yes, it is the major vitamin for the immune system but one cannot achieve optimum health by depending on it.

I am taking TheraHerb VCO now and the taste is better because it has flavor. Mine has banana flavor and it really is better than plain VCO. The best part of it is its colon cleansing ability. The first time I took it, I had diarrhea but wasn't severe. I just defecated 3 times wihtout any tummy cramps, and felt so light after.

Hi! Do you take your VCO directly? I mean you don't put it in cereals or oats? I also tried VCO but I haven't bought the one with flavor, because I thought the plain one has better taste. Have you tried the Red Juice? They've said that it's the best drink to clean the colon. The only problem that I can bought it, is that it's too expensive. sigh..

Of course, Vitamin C is the one which can boost your immune system. I can say I am a very healthy person, but I do take in Vitamin C for added immune strength and for protection purposes. I guess, It would be advisable for all to take Vitamin C as it is an immune system booster. Having a healthy lifestyle and diet should go hand in hand too.

Those immunocompromised must get into taking Vitamin C. They really need to have one.

The only problem with me is I don't exercise frequently. What only keep me going are the household chores I have to do everyday. And I don't sweat a lot, but I'm so lazy to go to the gym and have a good work out. Vitamin C is good, but I feel it's still not enough.

Vitamin C is the leader for boosting immune system, zinc is a good mineral. I prefer fruit salad, pulps or juices of citrus fruits as these contain many more minerals and digestible fibers and make it easy to absorb the benefits. Its a pleasure also, to enjoy the natures bounty.

I think I've read that although fruits and vegetables are good, they can't supply you the exact percentage of vitamins one should get everyday. For example, 500mg of Vitamin C equals 1/2 truck of Guava. And of course we don't want to eat that thing whole day long, that's why the vitamins in capsule were generated. But, I don't know if this true since I can't remember where I read this. Hahaha!

I agree with you that pills are a lot more concentrated and are really potent. But excess of any good or bad, a source of toxicity in the body. And then body has got a limited capacity to absorb, so a lot of the pill you take is simply drained away in the urine. A fruit a day is in my opinion an optimum dose. It provides anti-oxidant properties are a bonus. I personally equate a pill to be something to be taken when I am sick! The lasting taste is a factor which is also alluring to me!

Levy,
You don't know what your body needs in vitamins every day...no doctor does either. Your body might not be absorbing the nutrients like others and you might need more or less than another person.
If you eat plenty of the nutrients every day over a long period of time the body will get enough. The excess will just be eliminated by the body.

The best thing to do to protect yourself is to eat right; lots of deep green and deep orange vegetables; lots of water. Enough sleep is very, very important! We can only heal ourselves when we are sleeping!
And Citrus Bioflavonoid and Garlic capsules are best. Citrus Bioflavonoid is a type of Vitamin C that is from the color in citrus fruit and is tops for healing! And garlic has been long touted as a wonderful way to heal the body.
Another thing that is good is juice from the mangosteen fruit. I use Thai Go from Nature's Sunshine...it has more punch for the immune than any other fruit in the world! And the flavor is lovely too! I keep it in the frig and drink a couple of tablespoons every day!
Another thing I use is colloidal silver. This remarkable product has anti viral, anti bacterial, and anti fungal properties! So it can stop an infection dead in it's tracks or prevent one!
Use this with pro biotics though....it kills the good bacteria in the stomach after long term use.

Besides the vitamins and eating advice you've already received, try drinking echinacea tea, or getting the capsules, with elderberry if you can find it. Echinacea increases the white blood cell activity, which picks off invaders - that's your immune system. I've had very good results just from taking this twice a day.

I don't know if it's available all over the world in walk in stores, but you can buy it on the internet. Herbalremedies.com is one place, but there are many. Just search for echinacea capsules.
