The Evils of Prescription Medicine

Canada

I hate taking pills. I'm 27, and had to take pills in my younger years for epilepsy. These pills slowed down my brain, so I couldn't think straight, and I'd be very sleepy most of the time. I fell asleep in every single class of mine in highschool... multiple teachers thought I was smoking marijuana, but it was actually prescription drugs that were making me slower. Nowadays, I use an inhaler for my asthma, and thats all I take. I never want to be put on another pill again. I almost started taking effexor, because I had a couple of panic attacks. I decided that I didn't want to start taking them after reading information and reviews on them, online, and I didn't want pills that would mess with my brain. My Mom had been taking those pills, after the emotional stress of my Dad passing away, but after a year, she decided to quit taking them. She had these crazy attacks after quitting those pills, that lasted for about 3 weeks. She said it felt like she was getting electric zaps on the sides of her head at random. Terrible stuff. In the US, the more pills someone has to take, the more money the prescription medication companies get. It all boils down to healthcare systems where you need to buy your own insurance, and they don't pay for anything for you. Here in Canada, we have universal healthcare. If I have a health problem, I can go to my free walk-in clinic, only a few blocks up the street, see a doctor in about 15 minutes, get a prescription, then get that medication to help me for free from the nearby grocery store. But even if you get medicine for low costs, and it's easy to see a doctor, never get into taking many kinds of medication. Medicine can help you out on many things, but when it comes down to taking handfulls of pills everyday that you can't tell are helping you, it is not a good situation.

It make's me wonder if this may be one problem with my daughter inlaw. I know she use to take topamax for her Epilepsy and then they changed it to the generic brand. She is sleepy all of the time. She said she has even a hard time making her hand's work on this new medicine. I know my son is slowly getting her off it, he said her Epilepsy wasnt that bad and there has to be another medicine she can take for the migraines. It just is very sad when you realize that they give you the med's to make you feel better and instead it make's you worse. We thought it may even be where she was depressed, but that wasn't it. So it could be the Epilepsy medicine.
