A lot of hearing better than a lot of talking

Humans have 2 ears and 1 mouth. This fact makes me think, what people need to listen more than talk a lot? How do you think?

Dear hsofyan, Great philosopher, I like this topic. It makes me think 'out of the box', great job! Keep it up! Human have two ears , one left and one on the right! It tell us to listen more and to listen from both sides. Assuming there is an argument, we should not jumpt in and take sides. We have two ears, therefore we need to hear from both parties to be FAIR. God give us one mouth but for many duties, eat healthy food, drink and speak good words! There is a very popular verse : SLOW TO SPEAK AND QUICK TO LISTEN We should always listen tentatively when someone speaks. We need to think first before we speak to avoid saying things that hurt people. Words spoken cannot be erase or taken back. 'Sorry' cannot heal the damage done! All the best, hope to hear your views on my latest topics too!

Thanks for sharing, Iriene.. Especially about "SLOW TO SPEAK AND QUICK TO LISTEN" (because: "Words spoken cannot be erase or taken back") and "we need to hear from both parties to be FAIR". OK, I'll see your discussion! Nice to meet you..

We can create connections between one thing to others. Nevertheless the connections may or may not be valid. From a physiological point of view, having two ears help us to hear better. For instance one of our ears is damaged we will suffer some hearing loss. If we are supposed to have only one ear, then its location should be at the top of the head. Imagine what we would look like. Your line of argument can be extended further. We have two legs,so we should walk more. We have two hands, so we should work harder. We have only one reproductive organ, so we should have only one wife. See how a simple line of thinking can go wild?

I thought I am talking along the same line. Let me continue where I left off. The point that I was trying to put through was that there is probably no correlation between the number of ears and the mouth. All of us need to listen, and also to speak out. We listen to widen our sights. We speak to pass on knowledge, and to expose what we have in mind. Someone with a greater knowledge should disseminate it. Someone with greater insight should share it. Forgive me if I was seen as talking nonsense.

You're absolutely correct. I think if people would listen to what people were saying, instead of just forming their own opinion based on a couple of words in the sentence that they would most certainly learn more about people. I have had people tell me, I thought you said this or that. And then I have to explain to them the whole discussion. They just caught a portion of it. It's just like that song that says "Why don't you listen to me when I'm talking to you?"

hsofyan hi hatley here yes we do talk too much and listen too'little as my son often told me. you arent listening to me and he was right my mind had gone ahead and was planning what i was going to say to him so that I didnt really hear all of what he said.so now I slow down the jabber and listen instead. much better communication between generations that way. we love our families but often we talk when we should be listening.

How true is that! So many people over use their mouth for talking and eating! I have a friend who instead of listening thinks about what she is going to say next and it is quite obvious and annoying! I guess we have two ears so we can hear in stereo (LOL) and in case of one failing there is always a spare!

hi hsofyan, in those schooldays, I remembered my teachers, my mum will always tell us to just shut up and listen.. Then when I was at work, they will say, ask if you got questions, or else you may not be able to do this work.. and blah blah blah.. But to support your views, I think I agree we should listen more and talk less.. with this, we are more capable in having a clear mind, since the mouth is in front, and the ears are at the back.. why I say so.. coz whatever we said will hurt someone at times.. however when we do the listening.. we make people happier..
