Parent Teacher Meetings.......  email this discussion to a friend?

Ok, I used to go to my son's school all the time and meet with the teacher to see how he was doing in school, what he was having trouble with, being socialable, finding friends, etc.. With my son having ADHD, behavior, and anger issues I want to keep up on this and tap into anything before it gets worse. Now they are not having these meetings anymore!!!
How is a parent to know what is going on with their child and help them if they need it....writing back and forth doesn't work for me, I like to talk face to face and see what the teacher really feels, thinks and body language plays a huge part. How do i know if the teacher is "really" helping him and not the "uppidity up" children?
Does anyone elses school stop these meetings also or even had them to begin with?

call your teacher and request a meeting, if that does not work afterr 2 tries then call the principal. There is no reson to not have these meetings. They are very important and help both the parent and the teacher help the student. Do not take no for an answer on this one.

we have a website we can go on now also and check everything on our kids, but i like to go to face to face. I was looking at my sons school calendar and didn't see any parent-teacher conferences. I know since school just started, I will give it alittle longer, then I will request a day to meet with his teacher....I always like to know what is going on his class and with him.....

They stopped parent/teacher meetings?! I can't think of one good reason for that--other than the fact that the teachers say that mostly it's the parents of the "good" kids that attend and the ones with behavioral or scholastic problems have parents that never show. I read that a few weeks ago.

Ask your son's teacher if you could have a face to face each month or more often if need be. Be sure they know how important it is to keep up to speed with your son's behavior achievements, issues and milestones and set new goals together. If there is still no cooperation, can he go to a charter school or can you get some help with private schooling?

Most of them that have be behavioral problems, are the ones where the parents are never around!! I know that from experience with my sister in law and her kids. Her son is the worst and they don't do anything with them or half the time for them.
Our school used to have some 1/2 days, which I really never cared for anyway, why waste the kids time, the schools money for paying the teachers, paying the bus drivers, and using gas for the 1/2 day. Well, when I was looking at his school calendar there were no parent teacher conferences listed, I know we have the school website, we are allowed to call and go to the classroom (but if i go, then my son will want to come with me when i leave) and we write in the journal that goes back and forth to the school.
At this time, I am having his therapist go to the school a day each week for awhile to watch him in class, see how he acts in class and enteracts, etc.. then she will meet with me if she has any concerns and we will still have a meeting together and if need be all three of us will meet.
I sometimes wonder about a private school, but I have no funds for that and with his anger, behavior i don't know if a private school will work for him. He needs the socialization yet, he also likes one on one interaction with schoolwork.

Your child, like others with ADHD, probably qualifies as disabled and that gives you a lot of options. The gov't will pay for a private school, or should because there's lots of children with ADHD going to private schools because they need more intensive instruction. They interact, it's like a normal school but with a higher teacher/student ratio. Why don't you look into it? Or a charter school? I don't mind my tax dollars paying for something like this, it's an investment in our future!

I hope everything turns out alright!

My son's schools have always had them. I have also gotten phone calls from the teacher when there was anything of concern to talk about.
