Jesus Always Hit Hard on the "Spiritual Leaders" of His Day

I'm just amazed. Jesus never hit hard on the sinners or tax collectors. Instead, he ate with them. But with the biblical (oh yeah, they were so strictly biblical) Pharisees and scribes and teachers of the law, he was really mean, in a holy sense. And that's one of the things I love about my Jesus! Jesus was no less biblical. He was (and is) the Word itself. His life gave flesh to it. Yet, he seemed to be unbiblical to the top spiritual leaders of his time. They even thought he was the devil itself. If he were here today in the flesh, some church leaders, born again or otherwise, would probably call him a cult. Jesus hit hard against sin and wickedness, but it was the so called spiritual leaders of his day that reacted most, not the sinners. Some sinners also rejected him (they cried out "crucify him" in the end), but not a few hopeless sinners surrendered their lives to him. The church today believes it has the mandate to share the Gospel to the world. Umm, well, I think they better stop awhile and think things ten times. Jesus is talking about a single church, his body, which in John 17 should have "complete unity" just as the Father and Son are one. As long as denominations exist, I don't think they can represent Jesus to the world. They're still part of it. God is looking for a church, without spot or wrinkle, with complete unity as the Father and Son (and Holy Spirit) are completely one. If Jesus were here today in the flesh, he'd hit hard on denominations, no matter how biblical they are.

I've always felt that Jesus said it all when He said to the religious/spiritual leaders of the day (in Israel) that they stood in the doorway, not entering and not letting others enter! Recently in my reading, I got the impression that they knew He was the Son of God, but was more concerned with their earthly seats of power and prominance, so rejected and crucified Him anyway! Mt 26:63 (Plus there were all the signs and miracles, how could they not have known?)

I absolutely agree. I think that He is hitting hard on them and they choose not to listen. I do think, though, that we have to differentiate between the physical church and the spiritual church. Denominations exist on the physical plane, but all who believe and trust in Him are the church - the body - of Christ. THAT church is spotless because the Blood of Jesus cleanses us, not because we are righteous in our own right.

You are right my fellow cook. Jesus would hit hard on the leaders of the world today, unless of course he sensed the capacity for change in their hearts. It is not what you do in life, it is who you are. Let me clarify what I mean by who you are. I do not mean your name, or your race, or your religion. I mean your attitude, your choices, your believes. You are kind, or indifferent or cruel. You respect others or you don't, or just some. You hold an empty cup, as the ancient kung fu masters and philosophers like to put it. Or you close your mind to all other views save ones that agree with you. It all depends on Who you are, and how you live your life. Do things that create smiles, and you are worshiping in Gods church. Make people feel good, and you are worshiping in Gods Church. Do things to harm others...and you are NOT worshiping in Gods church.
