Gone! All gone basically.

We do have a fireplace but I can't tell you how long it has been since we have used. I do know if or when it is used again it will have to be cleaned out real good by a professional. If we lived in a colder place I know we would use one often in the winter time.

Did you have the stump cut right down to the ground? A place up the street from me had a huge tree taken down last summer. They use the stump as a base for several pots of flowers... looks nice.
And when I lived in Guelph, someone had a tree taken down, but left about 5' of the trunk standing, which was carved (by chainsaw) into a teddy bear. They dressed it up for hallowe'en.

hey - do I remember you saying that you properly dispose of your old flags in your bonfires? I have a friend who has a small flag she wants to have honorably burned.

I would LOVE to have a small fire pit in my backyard for little bonfires, as i think there is nothing more relaxing than to sit out side on a summer or fall evening with some friends, have a few beers and just chill. Unfortunately i live in town, and though we could get a permit for it, my back yard is prety small and i don't have a good sized open space that i would feel safe about setting a fire up in.*sad*

I don't have a fire place, but my parents do. My mom always wants to use it during the winter, but my dad doesn't want to mess with it. They had one of their trees cut down. It kept leaving sap on their cars, as the tree was in the front yard, close to the drive way. They didn't so much mind the pine cones that littered the front yard, as the sap that refused to be washed away.

I have no idea what a cottonwood tree looks like. But I do know what it means to lose shade trees in your yard. We've lost several to storms, lightning and dead trees. Probably got a couple Box Elder trees that are going to be going by the way side one day, although I hate to have them cut. One I will let go with no problems, but the others are too close to our house and shade trees. We've already lost one in the back yard. The trunks of those are subject to disease and dying.

What must be done must be done, but I hate trees being chopped dow when nothing is wrong with them and they do feel in pain and now it is dead, rest in peace tree.

it's funny,homemade bonfires (like in a garbage can) are illegal here,but those store bought firepits (like they sell at home depot) are legal.

That's the end of that cotton pickin tree. Now it won't look like you guys have snow in the month of may. Those guys are doing a great job cutting that big tree down. It's great that neighbor shared the cost with you. Great to have such nice and understanding neighbors. Bye Bye tree.

I had a chiminea that got cracked. After seeing a fire pit that my daughter's neighbor had while in Minnesota, we came home and made a nice one for our yard. We had coffee and a fire this morning and fire this evening. I am glad you got the firewood for yours. We got quite a bit ourselves from some trees that had to come down and from branches that broke during a storm.
