Horrible news

I am very sorry about your cousin and I have known pople who committed suicide as well as people who tried but did not suceed. Depression is real and alot of people look at it as a weakness when it is really a chemical imbalance. Being only 28, unemployed and no health insurance is alot to deal with. As far as what to say to your aunt and uncle a simple hug and I am sorry and just holding their hand for awhile is suficent. God bless you and her family and may God bless your cousin too.

I have suffered from depression for years. I have good days and bad days. I have wanted to end my life at times also but I have never actually tried to make sure it would happen. I try to stay positive and have hope that things will eventually get better. They do at times and sometimes not. I have not seen alot of my family in years either. They have their busy lives and I have mine also. I know they care about me and I for them also though. I am sorry to hear about your cousin. I understand that she felt no hope in her life. It is too bad someone else could not see it also and try to be there for her or get her some help. Alot of times, people feel like they just want to be left alone though and noone actually knows they are really suffering. I cannot say it is anyone's fault because we do not know what was truly bothering your cousin in her mind. I would just tell your aunt and uncle how sorry you are, for the family's loss. That should be enough said and show you truly did care.

I am sorry for your loss. Sadly so many young people today do not understand the role that good nutrition plays in mood management and it seems that many more people are getting into that downward spiral than in the past. Sadly it is not something that is often given clinical attention, although one study concluded that young adults who had attempted suicide consumed less fiber, which did not surprise me. What did surprise me is that they apparently did not examine the intake of B-complex vitamins in that study.

I would not know what to say to the parents either, except to offer them love and somehow assure them it was not their fault, as that is probably what they are feeling now.

Hello there. Wow this is very deep. I know that I do not know you, but I first want to send my condolences to you and your family. There is nothing that I nor anyone else can say that would make sense to you right now. I also do not want to assume and or judge what your cousin was going through in her mind. I will however say that I have delt with depression in my family. As you may know it is very difficult to deal with, and it is truly an illness. When my family member went through a depression, the best thing I could do was be there, and offer my support day in and day out. My family memeber also sought counseling which helped with their recovery.

Suicide does not make sense in general. Its important to know that no one is to blame. At this moment I would suggest that you support your family as much as you are able to. And if you are not close to some family members for whatever reason, reach out to them. Tomorrow is never promised.

As far as what to day to your Aunt and Uncle, maybe just to hug them, and be there for them is all you can do. Focus on the good memories that you and your family have of your cousin. I truly hope that everyone in your family is okay, and I will keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers.

hi trace 86 thats a really tough situation and I feel'for you as I try to think what I would say. my friend here had a call about
two months ago and she was in tears. her twenty one year old grandson was depressed because he could not get a job so he went up to the'attic,put a shotgun under his chin and well you can just imagine. she said he graduated from college cumma laud and was going to be'a trial lawyer. He had been really high on the whole thing but he hadnt got a job yet. she was apalled as he had everything going for him,college degree, good looks, loving family a girl who cared deeply for him,and his grandparents who cared also yet he killed himself.So I just put my arms around her and held her. whAt can you say,its a real tragedy and it happens now much too much.

I was so close to fall into depression early this year
I was already stressed out for years I didn't want recession to make it worse
so what I did was fighting for my sanity in any way I can
I do yoga, sleep early, watch funny videos every day, get busy in the house anytime I feel like being pulled into that deep hole - you name it

I had the thought of 'going to a place with nicer people in it' when I was young I lost my job, my chance to marry, among many things
but my religion said I would go to hell if I suicide so I didn't do it
I was in my 20s then I am glad I didn't do it
I wouldn't have met love of my life and married him for 9 yrs now
The only thing I can think of to say if I were you is that she has gone now and no longer in pain, we the living have to let go so that she can continue her new journey
I know how hard it is losing someone you love, I lost my dad to cancer many years ago and every morning I still don't believe it
but I don't cry as much anymore. It was his time to go and he had to. if I held him back he would never reached his destination and that is not fair.
He's served his time, now it's mine and I won't give it up until my time comes.

I'm so sorry for your loss that is terrible. All you can say to your aunt and uncles is how sorry you are. There really isn't much more you can say. It's such a hard thing to accept especially if they don't leave a suicide note to explain at lease WHY they felt they needed to go out this way. May God Bless you and your family.

I am really very sorry to hear how a young life is gone forever. Its true, what depression can do. In this case its just the ultimatum. I think prior to this extreme happening, some family members should have taken certain counselling for her, if it was not taken.

Sorry to hear about that, it does it a bit close to home Trace. While I do not advocate suicide, I can understand why some people resort to it, even around my age group. Depression, despair, loneliness (even if perceived by the individual only), helplessness and lack of purpose (perceived worthlessness) are all very powerful alone but are relentless when combined. People don't even want to talk about it either because society doesn't seriously discuss and address suicide. Additionally, the people themselves feel ashamed to admit they are going through some of the precursors of suicide. I think the worst part is that there are signs of suicide in a person, but the signs aren't always there... and then its too late.

One thing Trace, maybe speak out about all of this. It doesn't have to be grandiose, even telling this to close family and friends, reassuring them, offering your words and attention to them... that could make a difference. But in the end it's up to individual. You can help, but they have to be the one to decide that the loss, the powerlessness, the loneliness, none of that is in control unless they decide it.

I'm 28 and have battled depression for many years. I am bipolar who is more on the depressive side of the illness. The most important thing to know is that it was no one's fault. Probably not even hers. I've been at the point where I truly thought it was best for everyone if I were dead. I really think that at some point when a lot of people are about to commit suicide, that they are no longer in their right mind. Sure, some people do it for selfish reasons, but I don't think that was hers.

God is not as judgmental as humans are.
