Which do you prefer to invest your money, long term or short term?

Let's say you have enough money to invest on a business, and you have 2 choices. One is selling profitable goods but only seasonal, or short term. However, since you can make good money you can easily change your business later to another profitable items.
The other one has a smaller profit and may take you a long time, but it will be consistent. This means you need not to transfer to another business, and you may study it to make it more profitable in the future.
Considering that competition to both is the same and both businesses are the ones you love, which will you invest your money in?
Thanks!

Hello: Everybody
I have started a discussion similar to this. I guess, after reading some books on investing, I learned some new rules if you want your investing really profitable. I read a book written by a stock investor, expert in online day trading, Mr. Mark Larson, "Trade Stocks Online". He compared stock investing to Walmart business. He said, "Make investing on stocks a business". A buy and sell business. Not hold and pray business. He said, "you must be good in buying wholesale and selling retail for a profit". You can buy low now, and then when your investment go up overnight, sell it for a profit tomorrow. No long game. He said, "Wal-Mart would not be successful if they bought a product, put it on shelves, and locked the doors, hoping someday in the future, when they needed more money, they could sell their product for a profit. So why should investors do business that way?". I got his point. Soon, I will be entering the stock market, and his advice are so useful to me. I highly recommend his book.

Hello friend. I prefer short-term investment as the profits come sooner if it is a reliable investment. But anyway, whether it is a long-term or a short-term investment, we must make sure that there is not much risk for it. Otherwise, we will lose our money very easily.

Actually the best plan would be to do both. Put some in the short term for the ready cash ability and short term profit. But most people who know anything about making money say that while quick profit is nice, the better choice is long term growth. It is usually more stable are reliable. I would have to chose the long term.

It seems in the current financial situation in the world that no investment is that secure. Selling profitable goods that are in season it a good way to earn, but with long-term investment, I still believe that property is one of the safest bets - if you buy it at the right price. People will always need housing no matter how good or bad the market is. You may not make a bundle within a couple of months, but there will always be a demand for accommodation and if you can't sell for a profit, that property will earn in rent.

I'd say I'd go for the seasonal or short term then invest the income for long term. I think anyone, to be financially sound, should have both long-term and short-term investments.
Similarly, it is indeed tempting to have a long-term business, but the problem is that there will always be nothing constant in life, most especially in the life of a business. Integration of technology just made the upgrades faster thus making a business obsolete in a blink of an eye.
So I guess for long-term, it should be more of a portfolio (or a healthy mix of investments from different companies) rather than doing business by yourself.

I will say long term investment is for me, because it's far more stable.. haha =D IMagine investing short term, we tend to be greedy and started investing more, only to end up losing more than what we have earned in the earlier stages.. hehe ^_^
BUt investing in long term is different, because we wont be losing much money in the process and by time we reap our profits, it's really a profit, rather than breaking even with fast investments.. haha =D
