Where do you get your pet's name? | | I'd often got a name for my pet from my favorite cartoon characters, like Tom and Jerry, Tweety and Winnie the Pooh. Sometimes I combine those names and come up with tweety tom, pooh rhay or just pooh-pooh. When my pet died and have a new one, I just use the same name.
How about you, does giving a nice name matter to you? where you do get their names?
Have a great day!

I used to have a good feeding several dogs. Have died, I never take my pet with the same name. If you take the same name, makes me very sad, reminds me of former pets.

| | 2. Loverbear (1690) | 4 months ago | My sixteen year old Siamese cat got her name from my favorite character on a sit com. I got the cat home and she yelled and complained and whined like Murphy Brown. The name stuck!!!
Then came the Maine C00n cat. I to this day can't figure out totally how I ended up with him, but I am sure glad I did. He was a rescue cat, and didn't have a name at age 5 months. It took a few days and my boyfriend ended up naming him. He called me one night and asked me how Dinglebeary was doing. The name fit so it stayed with him. We call him Ding Ding for short.
The brothers came to my home two years ago. They are flame point Siamese and were around 6 weeks old when I got them outside Wal Mart. It was July and 110 degrees in the shade so I wasn't about to leave them in the car while we did our grocery shopping. So I put them both in a canvas tote bag and carried them in the store. One of them was very shy and bashful while the other was extremely brave. I decided that they should have Thai names so I went on line and checked the Thai/English dictionary. I came up with Khuay for the shy one, and Det for the brave one. Well the brave one didn't like the name Det and wouldn't recognize it for the world. At that same time my daughter, son in law, and two grand daughters were staying with me. They decided that THEY would take one of the two brothers when they moved out. I of course said "NO WAY". My boyfriend announced that he was adopting one of the kittens and he chose Det. He changed the kitten's name to Willy and it has stayed with him the full time. Willy and Khuay do stay at my house, but technically Willy is my boyfriend Bill's cat.

careguarden (456) | 4 months ago | I actually haven't tried searching names for my pet on internet. I just give them names that I would like and suited for them. So mostly I give through cartoon characters. But maybe I would try surfing on net as well. Thanks a lot.
Have a great day!

| | 4. ElicBxn (15239) | 4 months ago | well, used to be I kind of let names come to me, but lately I haven't been really willing to work too hard on them, well, I have a LOT of names to deal with... There was a show on called Farscape, lately we've been mining it for names. 4 and a half yrs ago we rescued a cat & her kittens, one reminded the roomie of one of the characters, Rygel - so even tho its spelled differently, its said the same as the star - Rigel - so we named the rest of the litter after stellar objects and found homes for them and the mom, but kept Rygel. The 2 latest cats have then been also named from the show, Zhaan and Jool. We also went thru a Doctor Who companion phase, with Rose and Capt. Jack, they were both rehomed. I then got this Siamese that was supposed to be Rose's brother, but he had a big stitched cut down his shoulder, that the sutures should've been out 2 weeks earlier so we named him Frankenkitty - Frankie for short. When we finally learned his name had previously been Feno, well, we kept Frankie because we decided he needed a new name for his new life.
So, here's a list of the current cats names: Sassy, Scamp, Shooting Star - Star, Rio, Timus, Taj, Chevron - Ronnie, Gabrielle - Gabby, Gizmo, Ping & Pong, Solo, Rygel, Oliver, Booboo, Chalube. Kit, Rock Star - Roxie, Tuti and Nefer, Frankenkitty - Frankie, Antonio - Tony, Zhaan, Blossom, Flower, Brat, Jumper, Scoot (a/k/a Thing One and Thing Two) and Jool, more or less in age order

careguarden (456) | 4 months ago | Oh, those real cute names. I'll recommend it to some of my friends. They have those different kind of breeding of cats. And sometimes, they asked my suggestions on naming their cats and this time I could give them those list that you've mentioned. Thanks for sharing with us and have a great day!

ElicBxn (15239) | 4 months ago | in some cases, like Ping and Pong, they had a Siamese sister who I named after a Chinese co-worker, she found a home (the kitten, not the co-worker) but we kept the boys, we named them after the game that opened up Red China - because the pair of them were hard to tell apart - still are, both yellow fellows... Blossom got her name because Flower came with her's and I'm just NOT going to work that hard for names

| | | 6. Wilbet28 (46) | 4 months ago | We adopted both of our cats from local animal shelters and they already had names when we got them. We changed the name of one of them though. His name was Commodore and we decided that the name sounded too stuffy and formal for him, so we changed his name to Comet. The name is much more fitting for him. He is only 2 yrs. old and very active--always getting in trouble

| | | | 7. Weirdology (393) | 4 months ago | I choose names that are either random and funny or names that look like the animal.
I had two cats (one died, the other I still have) named Hocus and Pocus, but they're not black. Then I have a black cat named Nipples. She doesn't have big nipples or anything. lol. Those are just random names.
And I have a cat named Ashwinder. She has silver, grey, and white hair that forms spirals and puffs out. It's also very long and reaches the floor when it's not trimmed. She reminds me of the Ashwinder snake from a companion book to Harry Potter, "Magical Beast and Where to Find Them". If I'm remembering right the snake is grey and silver and lives in fireplaces and often swirls around in spirals like ash.
Then I have a pug named Biscuit. He's short and fat and golden and looks like a biscuit.

careguarden (456) | 4 months ago | oh, I like that. Having funny names of your pet makes you laugh, especially when you call them. I like the name biscuit, it's kinda foxy and clever. I do have a black cat, but he died. Then I have two white kitten nowadays and I used and combine their names of my previous cat. Because I want the memory of cat remained.

| | | | 8. dolmitta (170) | 4 months ago | I always name my pet depending on their color and look. I had a kitten and she was brown in color, so i named her brity. It totally depends on my mood and the way the per interact with me. Sometimes i name them on their behavior...

careguarden (456) | 4 months ago | You've got one-of-a-kind idea. It must be taken time to come up with a name. It's good when you name it by their behavior, so when people know their name, they know how to treat your pet.

| | | | 9. vicki2876 (3253) | 4 months ago | I have a four year old boy kitty named Baby BJ. The way that it went was, my neighbor had a cat that had kittens and my daughter picked out a kitten she would like. We still had to wait for the kitten to be ready to come to our house. In that time my daughter went away for a week and that is when the kitten was ready to come here. So I took him without my daughter home. He stayed with me for days on end and I was up all night long with him like a newborn. He was spunky and wild like the lion in the book I was reading at the time. It was the Earth Children Series by Jean Auel. In the book the girl calls her pet lion Baby. I would go around and call him Baby. When my daughter came home she was allowed to pick out his name which she wanted BJ after Billy Joe Armstrong from Green Day. So it was planned to be BJ but I still kept calling him Baby, so it ended up being Baby BJ. That is his official name at the veterinarian's office too.
But to be honest, he is still just Baby. LOL

careguarden (456) | 4 months ago | Your response makes me laugh:-) Like you're secretly fighting your kid just for the name of your pet. It's kinda amazing on how you really put value on giving names of your kitty. Because I actually do the same thing. When I was a kid, I have a little cute kitten, my mom want to call her ming-ming, but I want to call her pooh-pooh. I did insist on calling her that name, and gladly I won.LOL
