Media - sensitive or insensitive |
|
I was watching television today - our state's chief minister died in a helicopter crash, along with four others. We had reports approaching the wife of one of the deceased asking her - what she was thinking? I didnt I wanted to know that. So why was the poor lady being asked that? It brought to my mind the media coverage of 26/11. I also recollect how the Hollywood stars collectively came forward to hold the nation together after 9/11. And then before that there was Lady Di in the car crash in pain while photographers were clicking away - to make the headlines. Agreed media has been good many times, but media persons need to be trained on sensitivity. What is ur call on this.

1. madugulagopi (664) | 4 months ago | There are some issues that should be untouched like what you have said.We should not approach a person who had lost a loved one and ask him/her how they are feeling. What is your response? These are all some ridiclous questions that should not be asked.the media people must know that they are asking a person who is in utmost pain but not a person who is in joy. They should show some dignity. As media ppl they have some responsibility and dignity to maintain but now a days its very sad and pity to know that they are losing it.Ofcourse none of the viewers want to know how the relatives of deceased fell there is no need to ask them everybody knows it.It should have been better if media ppl are not allowed near the closed ones of the deceased..

vandana7 (1775) | 4 months ago | I absolutely agree with u. What is worse is the media person who was asking these questions was a girl herself! How insensitive can she get! I am glad she is no friend of mine. I would have had tough time not giving her a piece of my mind. But the person who is covering it or broadcasting it, even they were happy enough to show it. I am surprised that they didnt say - NDTV is the first to show it - the way they were doing when terrorists were there in Taj. Disgusting.

2. prinzcy (2169) | 4 months ago | It's like the time I watch a news about a man died in a crash. He left a wife with three kids. The reporter asked her, "How do you feel or think when you heard the news?" Duh! Stupid question! Of course she was sad and shocked. Even if they're out of question, don't ask something like that. Think of the poor woman.

vandana7 (1775) | 4 months ago | Yeah - it is exactly the same situation - only the people are different and so is the country. I'd rather they behaved normally. And I could understand if it was something for which they would get some promotion - like covering the news before the rest - but interviewing the wife of the deceased with such dumb questions will hardly add to their list of qualifications. The poor woman was there wiping her tears, her hair open, and her head bent downwards - and though I have no particular political leanings towards any party, my heart went out to that woman in pain. At distance I could feel sorry for her, practically at the scene how do they control their feelings? I would be in tears myself. May be they are trained to be indifferent to others misery.

vandana7 (1775) | 4 months ago | U sure have way with words. Everytime u write and everything u write I agree with word by word. But I dont have guts to spell it out in open like u. I hope u will help me be more honest. Just wanted u to know that even the reporters who are normally quite respectable have joined in the fray since the time I posted this. Apparently the political bigwig who is dead was so highly connected that if they dont have two words to spare, their careers might be affected! So much for the media being independent in the world's biggest democracy.

grandpa_lash (1706) | 4 months ago | One of the nice things about getting old is that you can be as cantankerous and as eccentric as you please, because you no longer need fear what people might say - whatever good or bad is going to happen to you probably already has lol.

vandana7 (1775) | 4 months ago | Paparazzi is insensitive, but even television reporters are. On the one hand they show how a young kid is being rescued from a deep well with the help f army personnel, and on the other hand they are poking the wife of the deceased - almost teasing. She must be miserable as it is. She is a traditional lady, so she didnt react. A person like me would have openly asked - oh u want to know how it feels, well, get married and lose ur husband. Then I will come and ask u how it feels. U can describe with all ur descriptive skills. Yes - even I believe they will face their karma.

6. kalav56 (1942) | 4 months ago | Definitely Vandana. It was very sad to see the kith and kin of the deceased in tears and all broken down.THe media people have to ask insensitive questions and compound their misery.Obviously the wife of the deceased is not going to be thinking of orange juice and icecream isn't it? THank God I did not watch it.

vandana7 (1775) | 4 months ago | I was unfortunate enough to have watched it. And I was unfortunate enough to watch the 26/11 as well. That small child who didnt even know that his parents were dead inside. He made a very said picture. And each time they keep on repeating the same news again and again and add - this is the channel that is the first to show u this and that. As if that is what should be registering in our minds and not the tragedy.

vandana7 (1775) | 4 months ago | U know - the same point I made here, yesterday I saw something similar on Star World - but of course they were advertizing for responsible journalism. I am so glad people are realizing. The ad showed the reporter asking the wife of a person who died how she was feeling because her husband had died after consuming some spurious drugs. I think that has calmed me. People are realizing that is not expected of media. Hope it percolates to other channels as well.
