Tunisian Crochet

I recently have found a new crochet technique, well at least new for me, but it has proven to be a technique that is not very well known. What I have been able to find out on the net is the very basic of basic instructions on the stitches and type of needles that are used.
The stitch itself is very easy to do. It's done on an afghan hook/needle. The hooks/needles can be anywhere from "14" to "22" inches long which provides for a wider panel that can be stitched together. The texture of the finished project is a heavy, more solid blanket type weight.
Last month I came across a pattern that called for a circular afghan hook. These hooks, which very much look like the circular needles that are used in knitting, allow you to do a panel that can go up to "40" wide. Also because the length and width of the project can become heavy, the cable in the middle transfers the weight to the middle of the two hooks.
Now here's the problem for me. I bought 3 hooks in different sizes. I was thinking that even though I am not a knitter, but have seen the circular knitting hooks used and understand the basic theory of that then the circular afghan hooks couldn't be that hard. All the stitches used are the same. I am finding that I have either misunderstood the use of circular knitting or Susan Bates has just played the biggest joke on crocheters world wide.
Is there anyone that has used this technique, tunisian crochet, or have used the circular afghan hooks. I'm looking for videos or books that showed how they are used. So far I haven't had any luck.

This is actually one of the oldest forms of crochet and yes I do do it. In fact I have created patterns using it. (check out my page for a link to my store)If you go to places like www.lionbrand.com they have needles that have cables that can switch the needle size and shape.

Hi,
I haven't looked at Lion Brand yet, but I really need some video tutorials on how to use the needles that I have. One of my goals in life is to learn how to learn use all the different types of needles that are out there. I think that the art of needlework is just becoming too old fashioned for some and a lot of the teenagers they have no idea what can be done with yarn. Its an art for me.
